AAA: Sacramento 4, Las Vegas 0
Sacramento Notes:
- Ricardo Genovés had one of his best games in Triple-A, going 3-for-4 with his fifth double of the season. It’s the second time he’s gone 3-for-4 with a double in May, and the third time this season he’s had at least three hits. Through 18 games as the Triple-A backstop, Genovés is batting .279/.355/.441, with five doubles and two home runs.
- Heliot Ramos was 2-for-4, his first multi-hit game since April 23rd. His batting average has slid from .267 in that game to as low as .208 coming into today’s game, and it’s back up to .220.
- Ka’ai Tom picked up his fifth double on the season, going 1-for-4. Since his MLB call-up, when he got one plate appearance, he’s 2-for-12 with a double and a walk.
- Starter Raynel Espinal was fantastic for the River Cats, going five shutout innings with a season-high nine strikeouts, along with three hits and three walks allowed. Espinal now has a 1.74 ERA on the season with a .189 average allowed, and has 32 strikeouts to nine walks in 20.2 innings this season.
- Another 2-inning appearance for Patrick Ruotolo, who gave up just one hit and struck out two. Through five Triple-A appearances, Ruotolo has a 0.96 ERA, with 11 strikeouts to four walks in 9.1 innings.
AA: Akron 3, Richmond 0
Richmond Notes:
- Matt Frisbee had a rough start for Richmond in a day the offense didn’t show up. Frisbee gave up three runs in three innings, off of two hits, three walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch. It was Frisbee’s first game this season where he gave up more than one run.
- Solomon Bates went three shutout innings in relief, giving up just a hit and a walk to three strikeouts. It lowered his ERA to 1.15, and through 15.2 innings, he’s allowed seven walks and just five hits, to 19 strikeouts.
- John Russell closed out the game, striking out two in a scoreless inning. He’s got a 13:3 K:BB ratio through ten innings this season.
- Frankie Tostado had one of the only four hits, all singles, by Richmond. Since the start of May, he’s 6-for-20 (.300), but that’s actually dropped his batting average from .348 to .329 over five games.
High-A: Eugene 1, Hillsboro 0
Eugene Notes:
- The Emeralds broke up the no-hitter with one out in the 8th inning, when Ghordy Santos singled. But they came close to getting no-hit and still winning, as they were already up 1-0. The game’s only run came in after Jimmy Glowenke walked, Santos was hit by a pitch, Luciano grounded out and moved Glowenke to third, and came in on a wild pitch (the second of three that inning).
- That amazing result nearly happened as Kyle Harrison hit double-digits in strikeouts in just 4.0 shutout innings, with two hits and three walks allowed. It’s the second straight game that Harrison hit double-digits in strikeouts in 4.0 innings. On the year, Harrison has 42 strikeouts in 19.0 innings, with eight walks and 13 hits. Harrison now leads the Northwest League in strikeouts by one. The second-place pitcher, Adam Macko, has 41 strikeouts, but in 6.2 more innings (25.2) than Harrison.
- Brett Standlee reached a season-high in strikeouts with four in a season-high 2.0 innings. He has 11 strikeouts to five walks in 7.2 innings this year.
- Clay Helvey struck out two in his inning of work, a nice bounceback after he gave up four runs, two earned, in 2.0 innings in his last game a little over a week ago. Helvey has 16 strikeouts in 11.0 innings.
- Cole Waites gave up a pair of hits in his inning, but also got two strikeouts. He’s given up nine hits in 8.2 innings, but also has 19 strikeouts to just four walks.
- To close up the game was Nick Avila, who picked up his 5th save while getting a strikeout without giving up a baserunner in his inning. In 9.2 innings this season, he has 11 Ks to 2 walks.
- Ghordy Santos had the team’s only hit, which broke his 3-game hitless streak. Santos is batting .288/.364/.475 on the season.
- There were no video highlights from the game, but there was one highlight…at least for the players that were a part of last year’s Emeralds
Low-A: Stockton 6, San Jose 2
San Jose Notes:
- Grant McCray had a 2-for-3 day with a walk and his 4th home run of the season, as his hot May continues. In five games in May, McCray has gone 11-for-22 with three home runs and a double, with two walks to four strikeouts. He also picked up his third stolen base out of five attempts.
- Vaun Brown’s 2-for-4 day included his fourth home run of the season as well. It was Brown’s second home run in as many games. Brown has also turned it on for the month of May, as he’s gone 6-for-16 (.375) with two home runs, and two walks to three strikeouts in four games since May 1st.
- Breaking a 3-game hitless streak, Aeverson Arteaga had his own 2-hit game, his first since April 26th. Arteaga has a batting line of .238/.312/.381 on the year, with three doubles and three home runs.
- Starter Eric Silva had a solid game, striking out five in 3.2 innings, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits and no walks. Through 14.2 innings this season, Silva has 21 strikeouts to just four walks in 14.2 innings.
- Esmerlin Vinicio had his first game without allowing a run for the first time in the last three, and had a season-high four strikeouts, for all his outs during his stint, though he did give up two hits and two walks. On the season, he has 11 strikeouts to four walks in 8.2 innings, but he’s also allowed 14 hits, leading to a .378 average allowed.
- Manuel Mercedes gave up a season-high four earned runs on a season-high five hits, though he did have a season-low two walks. It’s been a rough year for Mercedes, with 17 walks allowed and 14 hits allowed in 12.2 innings, to just 11 strikeouts.
