Sacramento Notes:

  • Sacramento won thanks to a mid-innings comeback rally.  The River Cats were down 4-2 headed to the bottom of the 5th, but the game was tied in the bottom of the 5th off of a Casey Schmitt double.  The River Cats took the lead in the 6th, as Mitch Haniger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and a Will Wilson 2-run double gave the River Cats the insurance to finish the game with.
  • Matt Beaty picked up his first home run of the season in his first game back with the River Cats after a 2-game callup to the bigs.  Beaty went 2-for-5 with two strikeouts on the night.  Beaty was 0-for-3 in those two games with the big league team.
  • Also going 2-for-5 was Casey Schmitt, back at shortstop, picking up his sixth double.  Schmitt has a batting line of .310/.326/.381 on the season after 19 games, with six doubles but none for more bases.  Schmitt has 20 strikeouts to three walks.
  • Rehabbing Mitch Haniger got on base the way you don’t want to hear on rehab: he was 0-for-2 with two hit-by-pitches.  It was Haniger’s first game in the field, playing left, and he played through seven innings.
  • Designated hitter Clint Coulter went 1-for-2 with a walk and a HBP.  Through 18 games, Coulter’s batting line is .364/.481/.515 with seven doubles and a home run.

  • Reliever Chris Wright made his Triple-A debut, with 1.2 innings, giving up just one hit while striking out two.  Wright started the season in Double-A Richmond with 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out seven to one walk.
  • With Wright’s promotion, the Giants released 32-year old Trevor Hildenberger.  After five games, Hildenberger had a 15.88 ERA with 10 hits and nine walks allowed in 5.2 innings with four strikeouts.

Richmond Notes:

  • Richmond took a loss to Erie by falling behind early and being unable to come back.  Erie picked up two runs in each of the first two innings, going up 4-1 after two innings.  While Richmond picked up single runs in the 3rd and 5th…but all the offense had been spent earlier in the week.
  • Ismael Munguia was 2-for-3 with a walk, but also made his first error of the season in right field.  Munguia has a batting line of .300/.386/.360 through 13 games, with five walks against nine strikeouts.
  • The only other Squirrel with multiple hits was Luis Matos, who was 2-for-4 with two singles.  Matos is 5-for-13 (.385) over his last three games, gently raising his batting average on the year, which currently sits at .295.

Eugene Notes:

  • Victor Bericoto’s 3rd inning solo home run set the tone for the Emeralds win, as it gave them the lead that basically held the rest of the way.  The rest of the scoring came from RBI singles by Logan Wyatt, Wade Meckler, and two by Adrian Sugastey en route to a 5-3 win.

San Jose Notes:

  • It was just a rough game for San Jose, who gave up six walks and seven hit-by-pitches in a big loss.  The Game turned in the 4th inning, when the game was tied 1-1.  Starter William Kempner allowed a walk, but got two quick outs.  However, after a mental error let another runner get on an infield grounder, Kempner was replaced.  Julio Rodriguez hit three straight batters with pitches, knocking in two runs, and a single, letting Inland Empire go up 4-1 and the rout was on.
  • Second baseman Thomas Gavello was 1-for-2 with a walk, a HBP, and his first home run of the season.  Through 11 games, Gavello is batting .278/.458/.417, with two doubles, a home run, and six walks to 10 strikeouts.
  • Shortstop Diego Velasquez went 2-for-4 with his second double of the season.  Velasquez has gone 7-for-35 (.200) with two doubles and a home run, with seven walks to 13 strikeouts.
  • Starter William Kempner was a bit unlucky, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks in 3.2 innings, though he did strike out six.  After three starts, Kempner has a 4.50 ERA with 12 strikeouts to seven walks in 10.0 innings.
  • It was an interesting line for reliever Julio Rodriguez.  On it, he went 0.1 inning, with one hit and one run, but he also hit three batters and allowed two inherited runners to score.  Rodriguez now has a 9.00 ERA after 4.0 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, one walk, four HBP, and collecting five strikeouts.
  • Reliever Esmerlin Vinicio went 2.1 innings, stranding two inherited runners, but allowing one run on two hits and no walks, striking out one.  Vinicio now has five strikeouts to five walks in 8.0 innings.
