Three guys with a pair of hits help highlight a Sacramento win, as well as a certain prospect who is on an extra-base hit roll.  Meanwhile, those catchers keep stealing bases in Eugene!

AAA: Sacramento 8, El Paso 2

Link

Player of the Game: 3B Casey Schmitt: 2-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 2 SB (3)

Sacramento got this win due to a lot of singles, but Schmitt’s extra bases by way of steals helped as well.  Schmitt had a total of five steals last season between the Majors and minors, and already has three this season.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • SS Marco Luciano: 2-5, 2 RBI, 2 K – Although Marco has hits in seven of his last eight games, this is just the second multi-hit game of the span.
  • LF Heliot Ramos: 1-4, 2 R, 1 2B (3), 1 BB, 2 K – Of Ramos’ last eight hits, five have gone for extra bases.  He’s slugging .712 on the season.
  • RF Ismael Munguia: 1-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 3B (1) – This is just Munguia’s second exta-base hit of the season.  He’s 3-for-17 over his last five games.
  • DH Trenton Brooks: 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 SF – Brooks has been heating up, now with a mini-4-game hitting streak that’s raised his average from .167 to .237.

Other Notable Lines:

  • 1B David Villar: 1-3, 2 R, 2 K, 2 HBP
  • SP Spencer Howard: 3.2 iP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Player of the Game: 1B Logan Wyatt: 1-3, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 HR (1), 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB (1)

It wasn’t a day for a lot of offense from the Squirrels, with only three total hits, but Wyatt’s home run knocked in three runs to at least make this game look close.  It’s Wyatt’s first of the year, after he had 17 last year between Eugene and Richmond, by far a career high (he had a total of five in the previous three seasons).

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • DH Hunter Bishop: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 HBP – Bishop is one of the few Squirrels getting hits at any pace, as he’s hitting .269 through seven games.
  • 3B Brett Auerbach: 1-4 – Auerbach’s been tossed into more infield games after the injury to Christian Koss, and is 4-for-20 (.200) after hitting just .153 in Richmond last season before being sent to Eugene.
  • RP Nick Garcia: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K – The only Richmond pitcher to not give up a run, he now has nine strikeout to zero walks in 5.0 innings.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • CF Grant McCray: 0-3, 1 R
  • LF Vaun Brown: 0-4, 3 K

Other Notable Lines:

  • SP Matt Frisbee: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR

High-A: Eugene 6, Everett 5

Player of the Game: RF Justin Bench: 2-4, 3 RBI, 1 2B (2), 1 K

Bench did a lot for the offense with his three RBI from the back of the order.  Bench didn’t have a single extra-base hit in 13 games at San Jose last season, but he already has two doubles in five games at High-A.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • C Onil Perez: 2-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB (3) – Another steal for the catcher, and this one was a steal of third, too!
  • 1B Zach Morgan: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B (2), 2 K, 1 SB (2) – Morgan is quietly off to a strong start, with a .292/.326/.427 batting line after six games.
  • RP Ben Madison: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HBP – Madison seems overpowered for High-A, as the 26-year old has 9 strikeout in 5.0 innings, to two walks and one hit allowed.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • SS Diego Velasquez: 0-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K

Other Notable Lines:

  • SP Manuel Mercedes: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 HR
  • DH Andrew Kachel: 1-3, 2 RBI, 1 BB
  • RP Nick Morreale: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K

Low-A: Postponed

The game will attempted to be made up on Sunday, April 14.
