Sacramento Notes:

  • Bryce Johnson was responsible for two of the three Sacramento hits on the day.    It’s Johnson’s first hits since returning from his latest big league stint, in his second game.   Johnson is batting .289/.370/.396 on the season in Triple-A in 87 games.
  • The other hit came off the bat of the recently outrighted Yermin Mercedes, going 1-for-3 with a walk.and breaking a brief 2-game hitless streak.  As a River Cat, Mercedes has a .267/.342/.438 batting line.
  • R.J. Dabovich made his first professional start, though Sacramento has been doing a lot of bullpen starts as the season is winding down.  Dabovich struck out five in 2.0 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.  He lowered his Triple-A ERA to 3.72 with the game, his second-straight game of going 2.0 innings, after having not gone that long it in a couple of months.

AA: Bowie 2, Richmond 1

Richmond Notes:

  • Shane Matheny led the Squirrels with three singles, going 3-for-4.  It’s Matheny’s third 3-hit game of the season, he’s 8-for-31 (.258) with a double and two home runs in September.
  • Diego Rincones had the only Richmond extra-base hit, going 1-for-4 with his 12th double of the season.  Since returning from a 3-week injury, he’s gone 3-for-17 (.176) with a double, and one walks to one strikeout.  In 85 games this year, he’s got 44 strikeouts to 15 walks in 339 plate appearances.
  • Starter Kai-Wei Teng struck out seven and walked six in 4.2 innings, but gave up just one run on two hits, the walks, a HBP, and two wild pitches.  Teng now has 160 strikeouts to 81 walks in 129.1 innings.
  • Reliever Tanner Andrews’ comeback from injury continued, with his second game in Double-A striking out three and allowing one hit in 1.1 innings.  Andrews has a 1.08 ERA overall in 14 games across four levels, from Arizona to Richmond.
  • Through five appearances at Richmond, Evan Gates remains unscored upon, allowing a walk and a hit while striking out one.  In 7.0 innings , he has 12 strikeouts to two walks and two hits allowed.

High-A: Eugene 4, Vancouver 2

Eugene Notes:

  • Grant McCray led the Emeralds today, going 2-for-4 and hitting a home run, his second at High-A.  Over 13 games in Eugene, McCray now has two doubles and two home runs, and a batting line of .271/.375/.438, with seven walks to 21 strikeouts.
  • Hayden Cantrelle had the team’s other extra-base hit with a double as he went 1-for-4.    In eight games at Eugene, Cantrelle is hitting just .208/.429/.458, with three doubles and one home run.
  • Marco Luciano went 1-for-3 with a walk.  The hit breaks a 3-game hitless streak for Luciano.  Luciano is just 3-for-25 (.120) in seven games since the start of September.
  • Starter Mason Black struck out six in 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks.  Black has a High-A ERA of 3.94 through 16 appearances, and now has 92 strikeouts to 28 walks in 77.2 innings.

Low-A: Fresno 4, San Jose 3

San Jose Notes:

  • Despite getting 10 hits, the only San Jose extra-base hit was off the bat of Logan Wyatt, who had a double while going 3-for-4.  In 10 games at High-A, Wyatt is now 9-for-45 (.200) with three doubles.
  • Wade Meckler went 2-for-5 with two singles.  That actually slightly lowered his batting average, which now sits at .405 in 10 games at San Jose, with seven doubles and one home run.
  • P.J. Hilson went 2-for-3 with a HBP.  Hilson now has a 9-game hitting streak in 10 games at San Jose (and didn’t have a plate appearance in the 10th game), and is batting .378/.375/.568 with a double and two home runs.
  • Starter Joe Kemlage went 6.0 innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks with four strikeouts.   Kemlage has a 4.76 ERA over 12 appearances in San Jose, with only four starts.  He has 48 strikeouts to 29 walks in 47.1 innings.
