Grant McCray has had a quiet season, but at least today he had a great day at the plate in Eugene, getting on base every time he came up to the plate.  Meanwhile, Casey Schmitt had another great day in Sacramento on his recent streak, and Richmond threw a shutout. Plus…a tie???

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • Casey Schmitt had another good night in Sacramento, going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple.  That’s his 12th double and first triple in 42 games total at Triple-A, but it’s also his third 3-hit game in his last four, which as seen his batting average move up from .286 to .313.  Over that span, he’s 10-for-18 with one walk to two strikeouts.  Overall, his Triple-A line is .313/.352/.441.
  • Left fielder Jakson Reetz was 1-for-2 with a walk, picking up a home run and got caught stealing.  That’s Reetz’s eighth home run in 33 games at Sacramento, and 12th overall this season including his team with Omaha.    With the River Cats, he has a .227/.331/.509 batting line.
  • Starting pitcher Kai-Wei Teng struck out seven over 5.0 innings, giving up just one run on one hit, three walks, and a HBP.  It was a good bounceback after he gave up six runs in his last start.  Teng’s ERA is at 4.34 in Triple-A, and he has 60 strikeouts to 28 walks in 47.2 innings.  In Double-A, in 47.1 innings, he had struck out 68 to 20 walks.
  • Reliever Nick Avila had a quiet inning in relief, striking out one without allowing a baserunner.  That lowers his Triple-A ERA to 3.38 with 51 strikeouts to 31 walks in 58.2 innings.

Top Richmond Performances:

  • Third baseman Carter Aldrete had the team’s only extra-base hit with a double while going 1-for-3 with a walk.  Aldrete now has 17 doubles and nine home runs with a batting line of .222/.284/.361.
  • Will Wilson was 1-for-3 as well, with a single and a walk, plus his first steal in Double-A.  Before coming down to Richmond, Wilson had two steals in three attempts in 93 games at Triple-A.  He’s got a batting line of .256/.304/.442 with three walks to seven strikeouts in 10 games at Richmond.
  • Starting pitcher Ryan Murphy had a good game, going 4.0 shutout innings, scattering around six hits and two walks while striking out five.  It was Murphy’s first game without allowing a run since July 25th, five games ago, and it lowered his ERA to 4.63.  He’s got 88 strikeouts to 42 walks in 83.2 innings.
  • Reliever Parker Dunshee went three scoreless innings, striking out three while allowing one hit and one walk.  He’s got a 2.56 ERA after 23 games at Double-A, with 55 strikeouts to 22 walks in 45.2 innings.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • Center fielder Grant McCray had a perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three walks and a home run.  McCray now has 12 home runs in 107 games, with 58 walks to 149 strikeouts.  HIs batting line is up to .257/.359/.420.
  • Right fielder Carter Howell went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk.  That gives Howell 15 doubles in 60 games, to go with four triples and three home runs.  He’s got a High-A batting line of .263/.346/.398.
  • Starting pitcher Trevor McDonald threw 5.0 scoreless innings, giving up only two hits while striking out four.  That’s four straight starts (16.0 IP) without allowing an earned run at Eugene, and six straight start if you include the end of his ACL rehab stint.  The 5.0 innings is a season-high.  In High-A, he has a 0.47 ERA with 18 strikeouts to five walks in 19.0 IP.

  • The only Giant with multiple hits was Anthony Rodriguez, going 2-for-4 with a double, and a stolen base, although he also suffered a pair of errors.  After 53 games, he has a batting line of .230/.284/.349 with 11 doubles, a triple, and four home runs.
  • First baseman Tanner O’Tremba was 1-for-4 with a double of his own.  That’s his 21st double of the season in 79 games, to go with two triples and six home runs, with a batting line of .267/.400/.420.
  • Starting pitcher Seth Corry went 2.0 scoreless innings, giving up a hit, a walk, and a balk, with five strikeouts.  Corry has a 6.23 ERA after five games in San Jose, with 15 strikeouts to six walks in 13.0 innings.

  • Designated hitter Quinn McDaniel was 1-for-2 with two walks in this game.  After 13 games, the 5th round pick has 18 walks to 14 strikeouts with a batting line of .243/.491/.459.
  • Third baseman Charlie Szykowny went 1-for-2 with a walk and a double.  Szykowny now has two doubles with a triple and a home run, and nine walks to 12 strikeouts in 12 games, to give him a batting line of .250/.423/.425.
  • Starting pitcher Luis Bermudez threw 5.0 shutout innings, allowing only two hits and a walk, with three strikeouts.  It’s Bermudez’s first game without allowing a run (or even allowing less than two), giving him a 6.75 ERA, with 54 strikeouts to 28 walks in 52.0 innings.

Top ACL Giants Orange Performances:

  • The only Orange Team run was thanks to Bryce Eldridge, who hit a home run on a 1-for-4 day.  Eldridge now has four home runs and two doubles in 13 games, and has a batting line of .275/.375/.625.
  • Shortstop Jean Carlos Sio went 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases.  Sio now has a .287/.395/.392 batting line with 30 walks to 30 strikeouts, with seven steals in nine attempts of the season.
  • 14th round pick Cale Lansville made his second appearance of the summer, going one scoreless inning and allowing only one hit, but not striking out anyone.  He’s got two strikeouts to no walks, and two hits allowed in 2.0 innings so far.
  • NDFA signing reliever Cole Hillier made his pro debut struck out four in 2.0 innings without allowing a baserunner.  The 22-year old had a 2.20 ERA for Point Loma Nazarene in his senior season before he got signed.

  • Center fielder Carlos Gutierrez was 1-for-2 with a walk on the day.  After 20 games, he’s got a .362/.457/.464 batting line, with three doubles and two triples, but no home runs.  
  • Reliever Jan Carabello went 3.0 scoreless innings, striking out four and allowing only two walks, two wild pitches, and a HBP.  Carabello has a 4.02 ERA with 25 strikeouts to 20 walks in 31.1 innings.

  • Starter Johan Rodriguez went 4.0 shutout innings, allowing two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts, with two wild pitches.  Rodriguez has a 3.86 ERA through 12 games, six of which are starts, with 21 strikeouts against 20 walks in 28.0 innings.
