Sacramento Notes:

  • Jason Vosler finally reached double-digits in home runs by going 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run.  Vosler now has a 9-game hitting streak, now 11-for-34 (.324) with tw doubles and three home runs.
  • Third baseman Wyatt Mathisen went 2-for-3 with a walk and his third double in his first start back with Sacramento after his brief 3-game rehab in Arizona.  Mathisen missed about three weeks of baseball since his last Triple-A game in June 19th.
  • Speaking of rehabs, Evan Longoria made his first rehab appearance, going 1-for-3 with a double.  Longoria last played in San Francisco on July 5th, suffering an oblique strain.
  • Heliot Ramos went 1-for-3 with a walk and picked up his fourth steal.  Ramos is now up to seven straight games with a hit, going 9-for-29 (.310) over that span.
  • Starter Enmanuel De Jesus went 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out four.  It’s his second straight game without allowing a run, which is now a total of 9.0 innings, lowering his ERA from 4.63 to 4.09.

AA: Altoona 8, Richmond 3

Richmond Notes:

  • Diego Rincones hit a monster home run for his sixth of the season, going 2-for-5.  His summer renaissance continues, after he hit .371/.414/.677 in June with five home runs, and this was his first in July, hitting .319/.347/.426.
  • Tyler Fitzgerald was 1-for-2 with a walk, a HBP, and his 12th home run of the season.  Fitzgerald is 11-for-37 (.297) with a double and three home runs over 11 games in July.
  • Armani Smith went 2-for-5 with his ninth double at the level.  In 36 games at Double-A, he has a .242/.297/.348 batting line with nine doubles, one triple, and one home run.
  • Starter Jake Dahlberg gave up six runs on nine hits and a walk.  It was only the second time Dahlberg gave up more than three earned runs in the last eight starts.

High-A: Eugene 4, Spokane 2

Eugene Notes:

  • Luis Matos hit his second home run in as many games, going 1-for-3 with a walk.  That gives Matos four home runs at High-A on the season.
  • Vaun Brown picked up his fifth home run in High-A, going 1-for-4.  It’s Brown’s only hit in the last two games (1-for-7), but his third home run over his last six games.
  • Luis Toribio is 1-for-2 with a walk, and hit his 12th home run.  It’s his second home run in as many games, his only home runs in July so far.  
  • Hunter Bishop led the Emeralds in hits, going 2-for-4 with two singles.  Bishop is 10-for-44 (.227) in July now with two doubles and three home runs.
  • Starter Mason Black struck out seven while allowing four hits and a HBP in 5.0 innings, with two runs (one earned).  Black now has 43 strikeouts to 11 walks in 41.2 innings.
  • Nick Morreale struck out five in 2.0 scoreless innings, on three hits and one walk.  Morreale has 37 strikeouts to 14 walks in 35.0 innings.

Low-A: San Jose 13, Visalia 12

San Jose Notes:

  • This game had a crazy seven total runs scored in three extra innings, with Adrian Sugastey knocking in the winning run.  The Giants used eight pitchers total, while Visalia sent two to the mound, though their final two were position players pitching.
  • Carter Williams was the team’s leading hitter, going 3-for-7 with his first triple and ninth double of the season, as well as stealing his third base.  Williams has an 8-game hitting streak, having gone 16-for-35 (.457) with three doubles, a triple, and one home run.
  • Alexander Suarez went 3-for-3 with a walk, a HBP, and his ninth steal of the season.  Suarez has two 3-hit games in July, and is batting 10-for-32 (.313) in July, though with just three doubles for extra bases.
  • Hayden Cantrelle went 2-for-6 with his third double of the year.  It’s Cantrelle’s second 2-hit game, and third 2-hit game out of his last five.  He’s raised his batting average from .211 to .246 over the last five games.
  • Starter Joe Kemlage had his first rough game with San Jose, giving up six runs on nine hits and three walks in 2.2 innings.  Previously, Kemlage had allowed three runs, two earned, in 8.1 innings over his first two San Jose starts.  He now has 12 strikeouts to seven walks in 11.0 innings at Low-A.

ACL: ACL Angels 3, ACL Giants Black 0

ACL Giants Black Notes:

  • Center fielder Mauricio Pierre picked up the only hit for the Giants, a single while going 1-for-3.  Pierre is 8-for-33 over the month of July, with two doubles and a home run.
  • Miguel Mora didn’t give up any earned runs, but did allow three unearned on five hits, three walks, behind one error and a passed ball, with five strikeouts.  Mora has 37 strikeouts to 15 walks in 27.0 innings.

ACL: ACL D-backs Black 2, ACL Giants Orange 0

ACL Giants Orange Notes:

  • Shortstop Gustavo Cardozo went 1-for-2 with his third steal of the summer.  Cardozo is batting .242/.264/.273 through 22 games in the ACL, with just two doubles for his extra-base hits.
  • Starter Gerelmi Maldonado gave up two runs on 4.0 innings, on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  Maldonado has not given up more than two runs in a start this season, but has reached that level three times in seven starts, with a 2.49 ERA.

DSL: DSL Rays 4, DSL Giants Black 3

  • Second baseman Wueslly Lespe went 1-for-2 with his second double of the season, the only extra-base hit for the Giants in this game.  Lespe has a batting line of .191/.375/.383 on the season through 22 games.
  • Starter Luis Bermudez gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks in 5.0 innings.  Bermudez has a 0.92 ERA through seven games this season, having allowed four runs, three earned, in 29.1 innings.

  • Right fielder Estanlin Cassiani led the Giants in hits, going 2-for-4.  Cassiani has a batting line of .395/.451/.420 on the year, but his only extra-base hit is one triple.
  • Starting pitcher Jose Rojas gave up four runs on nine hits and a walk in 5.0 innings.  It’s Rojas’s second time in a row giving up a season-high four runs, and the third time overall in the season.  Rojas has 16 strikeouts to 14 walks in 23.1 innings
