Sacramento Notes:

  • Wyatt Mathisen went 2-for-5 with his fifth home run with Sacramento, and led the team with five RBI.  Since returning from injury on July 9th, Mathisen has three home runs in ten games.
  • Willie Calhoun went 1-for-3 in a shortened game for him, hitting his third home run with Sacramento.  Through 24 games since arriving in Sacramento, Calhoun is batting .299/.396/.483 with seven doubles and three home runs.
  • Bryce Johnson also hit a home run, his fifth, in a 1-for-5 day.  In 69 games, Johnson has six doubles, two triples, and five home runs with a batting line of .291/.354/.405.
  • Austin Dean led the team in hits, going 3-for-4 with his 10th double and a walk.  Dean has an 8-game hitting streak, going 13-for-30 (.433) with three doubles over that span.
  • Curt Casali made his rehab debut, though he didn’t do well, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts.  Casali has not played since July 4th.
  • Starter Bryan Brickhouse got hit hard, giving up five runs in 1.2 innings, on three hits and four walks with just one strikeout.  Through five games in Triple-A, Brickhouse has a 10.45 ERA with eight strikeouts to 11 walks, and 12 runs allowin in 10.1 innings.  He had 72 strikeouts to 25 walks in 68.0 innings.
  • Reliever Shelby Miller struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, only allowing two walks.  Since signing with the Giants, Miller has a 4.74 ERA with 25 strikeouts to nine walks in 19.0 innings.

AA: Somerset 6, Richmond 0

Richmond Notes:

  • On a very quiet day for Richmond’s offense, Carter Aldrete picked up his first Double-A hit, going 1-for-3, and is 1-for-6 (.167) overall.  He hit .289/.369/.545 in 74 games at High-A Eugene before his promotion.
  • Brett Auerbach got Richmond’s other hit, going 1-for-4.  It’s Auerbach’s third straight game with a hit, each with one, going 3-for-11 (.273) through those games with a home run.
  • Jake Dahlberg went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks, though with just one strikeout.  Dahlberg now has 81 strikeouts in 85.1 innings, to just 22 walks.

High-A: Eugene 5, Hillsboro 4

Eugene Notes:

  • Jairo Pomares was 1-for-2 with a walk, and his 10th home run in High-A this season.  He has 13 home runs in total, including three hit in Arizona, over 74 games.  His career-high in 20 hit in 2021, in 77 games.
  • Luis Toribio hit another home run, going 1-for-2 with two walks and his 16th home run, his second home run in two games.  Toribio now has six home runs in July, and has hit 18-for-69 (.261) in the month of July.
  • Jimmy Glowenke was just 0-for-3 with a walk in today’s game, but he had an amazing double play.
  • Starter Landen Roupp had an excellent start, striking out six in 4.0 scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and a walk.  It was Roupp’s second straight scoreless appearance, with 15 strikeouts to one walks in 10.1 innings.  He has a 1.96 ERA now after four games in High-A, with 19 strikeouts to five walks in 18.1 innings.

Low-A: San Jose 6, Rancho Cucamonga 0

San Jose Notes:

  • Grant McCray led San Jose in hitting, going 3-for-4 with a walk, hitting his 18th double of the season and stealing his 27th base of the year.  McCray has 18 doubles, five triples, and 15 home runs, with 27 steals in 35 attempts.
  • Hayden Cantrelle was 1-for-3 with two walks, and stole two bases to give him seven with the Giants.  Cantrelle has 21 walks in 28 strikeouts in 25 games with San Jose, and now seven steals in eight attempts.
  • Carter Williams was 1-for-3 with a walk, and his fifth steal with San Jose.  He extended his hitting streak to 16 games.   He now has a batting line of .408/.490/.672 with San Jose through 33 games.
  • Starter Seth Lonsway threw 4.0 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and three walks, with a season-high tying seven strikeouts.  Lonsway has 84 strikeouts to 38 walks in 65.2 innings, and lowered his ERA to 3.56.
  • In relief, Matt Mikulski struck out five in 3.0 scoreless innings, on one hit and two walks.  It’s Mikulski’s second game without allowing any earned runs, and his ERA is 4.88, under 5.00 for the first time since early June.

DSL Giants Black Notes:

  • Second baseman Brandy Rosario had the team’s only hit in this shutout, going 1-for-2.  Through 17 games, Rosario is batting .143/.279/.200, with two doubles, and six walks to 15 strikeouts.
  • Starter Luis Bermudez had a season-high 10 strikeouts, going 5.0 innings and allowing two runs on three hits.  Bermudez’s ERA did shoot up from 0.92 to 1.31 in the game, and now has 30 strikeouts to eight walks in 34.1 innings.
