One of the Giants’ top prospects, Heliot Ramos, has suffered and oblique injury and will miss the rest of the Arizona Instructional League, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Ramos was injured on Oct. 8th, and has missed every game since then.  Instructional League will end on November 12th.  It was a re-injuring of his left oblique, which was first injured in February during Spring Training.  According to reports, Ramos is expected to be fine for 2021 Spring Training, with the assumption that the COVID-19 pandemic will not affect the 2021 season.

Ranked the Giants #3 prospect by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline, the 21-year old Ramos has dealt with a number of injuries in 2020 and the past.  In addition to the two oblique injuries, Ramos also suffered a leg infection that shortened his summer camp and time in the alternate training site in Sacramento.

In 2019, Ramos suffered a knee injury while swinging during a game in April, and missed about three weeks of playing time.

If 2020 had been a normal season, Ramos would have likely started the year in Double-A, where he finished the 2019 season and struggled somewhat to a .242/.321/.421 batting line.  In the ideal situation, he would have progressed to Triple-A and be on the cusp of a 2021 MLB debut.

It’s unknown what 2021 will bring, as results from the alternate training site and the instructional league are not published.  But especially with three injuries in 2020, it’s very possible he will just start 2021 where he was supposed to start 2020.
