GiantFutures 2023 Ranks: #29 Overall, #7 Relief Pitcher

2022 Performance: Uber Mejías did not play in 2022, as he was in the process of becoming eligible to play in the U.S.  He signed in October.

Strengths and Weaknesses: All there is to go on for Mejías for now is scouting reports.  One industry source said that he has enough movement in his pitches to be a late-rotation starter.  He has sat in the low-90’s but has the profile to be able to build more velocity with it.  He matches it with a slider and changeup.

The source also noted that Mejías has “advanced pitchability” due to his experience in international tournaments.

2023 Outlook: Mejías is a lot more advanced (and older) than most international signees, so he won’t take the same path.  Where he starts will depend on how he looks in the Spring, but I expect he’ll start in Extended Spring Training and sharpen himself in the ACL before moving to San Jose late in the season.

Future Profile: There’s not much to go on for this projection.  Scouts say he could be a back of the rotation starter, but I’m going with my gut, and I’m going to lean on him becoming a reliever.  He has a lot of work to do without having played beyond showcases in the last couple of years.
