A couple of blown leads on this Wednesday get overshadowed by an injury to a top star, though details are scant.
AAA: Sacramento 7, El Paso 3
Player of the Game: LF Heliot Ramos: 3-4, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 2B (1), 1 HR (4), 1 BB
A great game for Ramos in the middle of the order, with his second 3-hit game of the season, and leading the organization in home runs. His line is .325/.400/.700 after ten games.
Other Players to Spotlight:
- DH Trenton Brooks: 1-3, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K – Brooks had a 3-hit game to start is season, but went 1-for-20 after. He’s gotten on base four times in the last two games though.
- SP Carson Seymour: 4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR – A solid start for Seymour, who has a 2.31 after three starts this season.
- LF Luis Matos: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K, 1 HBP – Matos has at least one hit in four of his last five games, with two doubles.
Top Prospect Lines:
- SS Marco Luciano: 1-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K
- 3B Casey Schmitt: 1-4, 1 R
- RP Juan Sanchez: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Other Notable Lines:
- RP Sean Hjelle: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
AA: Akron 6, Richmond 3
Player of the Game: 1B Victor Bericoto: 3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 HR (1), 2 K
It was a great night for Bericoto, whose first inning home run put the Squirrels up early, although they would squander the lead in the 8th inning, allowing five runs (including a grand slam)
Other Players to Spotlight:
- LF Hunter BIshop: 3-5, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB – Good game for Bish. The steal came with him in a rundown, but with him slipping the tag to get to second.
- SP John Michael Bertrand: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K – A strong start for Bertrand, who kept Akron silent the early part of the night.
- CF Grant McCray: 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K – McCray finally got his first hit in his fourth game, but he does have five walks (to nine strikeouts).
- RP Nick Garcia: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K – Garcia was a pickup in the minor league part of the Rule 5 draft, and he dominated tonight. He’s got six strikeouts in 3.0 innings after two appearances.
- DH Vaun Brown: 0-4, 4 K – Ugh. He is flailing as wildly as I’ve seen a high level player do. Brown has 10 strikeouts in 16 at-bats, with just one walk and two hits.
Top Prospect Lines:
- C Adrián Sugastey: 1-4, 1 K
Other Notable Lines:
- RF Carter Howell: 2-4, 1 2B (1)
High-A: Eugene 7, Everett 2
Player of the Game: 1B Matt Higgins: 2-3, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Higgins is off to a great start early this season, having gone 7-for-12 (.583) in four games, with three walks to four strikeouts.
Other Players to Spotlight:
- LF Andrew Kachel: 3-4, 1 R, 1 BB – These were Kachel’s first hits of the year in his third game, with three walks to one strikeout.
- RF Justin Bench: 2-4, 1 BB – Bench is hitting .250 with a .308 OBP after three games, when he hit .362 with a .456 OBP in 2023 between San Jose and the ACL.
- SP Dylan Cumming: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HBP – Another good appearances for Cumming after he had five strikeouts in three innings last time out. He’s got a 1.13 ERA in two appearances, with this being his first start..
- SS Diego Velasquez: 1-5, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B (4), 1 K, 1 SB (2) – Not as many hits today, but he had Eugene’s sole extra-base hit.
Top Prospect Lines:
- DH Onil Perez: 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB (1)
Other Notable Lines:
- RP Nick Sinacola: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HR
Low-A: Visalia 8, San Jose 3
Player of the Game: SP Dylan Carmouche: 4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 WP
This was Carmouche’s second game this season, first start. He gave up five runs, four earned, in two innings in his pervious appearance, so this was slightly better.
Other Players to Spotlight:
- 1B Bryce Eldridge: Stats – Eldridge hit a double in the top of the first inning, played defense in an inning that involved three batters striking out, and was lifted for a pinch hitter with a reported lower body injury, according to the SJ radio broadcast. He did have an awkward slide into second, but did not come up limping. There was no apparent injury seen on the TV broadcast.
- CF Nadir Lewis: 1-2, 1 R, 1 2B (1), 2 BB – Lewis has only gotten into two games so far, but he’s 3-for-6 with a double now, and two walks to one strikeout.
- SS Maui Ahuna: 1-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B (1), 1 K, 1 E (1) – This double was Ahuna’s first extra-base hit, going 4-for-12 through those first three games.
Top Prospect Lines:
- 2B Cole Foster: 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
- DH Luke Shliger: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K
