Heliot Ramos is on a roll, as he hit yet another home run down in Triple-A, this one a walkoff home run for the win.  That helped the River Cats win what had been a great performance by Hjelle, who carried a no-hitter through five.  Meanwhile, two of the higher draft picks from the 2023 draft hit home runs in San Jose.

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • Heliot Ramos keeps on hitting, as he went 2-for-4 with a walk-off 3-run home run and a walk.  It’s Ramos’ second game in a row with a home run, and third in his last four games.  He’s 6-for-15 (.400) with two doubles and three home runs, and four walks to five strikeouts in that span.  Overall, he now has 12 home runs in 50 games at Sacramento, hitting .315/.383/.613.
  • Left fielder Luis Matos was 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks and one strikeout.  For Matos, it’s his first home run in Sacramento since returning from San Francisco on August 30th.  He has eight home runs in 30 Sacramento games, and 13 total home runs including Richmond and the Majors.  At Triple-A, he’s hitting .359/.408/.618.
  • Catcher Joey Bart went 3-for-4 with three singles, plus a walk and a strikeout.  That ups his batting line to .249/.359/.401 with 29 walks to 66 strikeouts.
  • Starting pitcher Sean Hjelle went 5.1 innings, carrying a no-hitter into the 6th, ultimately allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits, three walks, and a HBP, with five strikeouts.  Hjelle lowered his ERA to 6.06, with 61 strikeouts to 34 walks in 81.2 innings at Sacramento this season.

Top Richmond Performances:

  • Third baseman Sean Roby went 2-for-5 with a double on the day.  That’s his third double in 16 games since returning to Richmond.  Roby is still hitting just .197/.254/.344 in Double-A since his return, with three doubles and two home runs.
  • Center fielder Ismael Munguia went 2-for-5 with a double as well, and added a stolen base.  Munguia now has 12 steals in 16 attempts at Richmond, and 14 overall including the ACL.  He’s one off of his previous season high, reached in 2021 in Eugene.  It’s also his 12th double in 63 games, with a .289/.360/.386 batting line.
  • Starting pitcher John Michael Bertrand gave up three runs in 5.0 innings, off of five hits and three walks, with eight strikeouts.  Bertrand has a 4.68 ERA after nine games in Double-A, with 35 strikeouts to 15 walks in 42.1 innings.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • Right fielder Carter Howell had the big hit for Eugene, going 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  That’s Howell’s sixth home run in Eugene, and 10th on the season including San Jose.  In 74 games at High-A, Howell has 17 doubles and four triples to go with the six home runs, and also now has 33 walks to 61 strikeouts.
  • Catcher Zach Morgan was the only Emerald with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a double.  Morgan has five doubles and two home runs in 21 games at High-A, with a batting line of .329/.365/.486.
  • Center fielder Grant McCray went 1-for-4 with a double.  That gives McCray 25 doubles now to go with his six triples and 13 home runs in 120 games.  One thing McCray has done this season is stay healthy, and with one more game he’ll have a new season-high in games played.  He’s hitting .258/.359/.419 on the season.
  • Reliever Eric Silva went 2.0 innings without allowing a baserunner, and striking out three.  It’s been a rough season for Silva, who lowered his ERA to 6.25 with 67 strikeouts to 37 walks in 72.0 innings this season.

Top San Jose Performances:

  • Second baseman Quinn McDaniel went 1-for-4 with a home run and a strikeout.  It’s the 5th round pick’s second home run in seven games at San Jose, and fifth home run overall this season.  In San Jose, he’s now hitting .375/.433/.708 with two home runs and a triple.
  • Shortstop Cole Foster also was 1-for-4 with a home run, though with three strikeouts.  That’s Foster’s fourth home run in 21 games and San Jose, and seventh overall.  Foster also now has struck out 31 times against six walks in Low-A.  He’s hitting .193/.272/.373 through 21 games there.
  • First round pick Bryce Eldridge went 1-for-3 with a walk, and also stole his first base of his pro career.  He’s 9-for-32 (.281) in San Jose after eight games, with one home run, and five walks to ten strikeouts.
  • Starting pitcher Joe Whitman gave up a one run in 1.2 innings of work, allowing two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Whitman’s ERA in San Jose sits at 4.91 after 3.2 innings, with five strikeouts and two walks.
