ACL Giants Black Notes:

  • Luis Matos!  Yep, he’s back, on his rehab, and went 2-for-4, with a double.  It’s his first game since May 4th, and the double is his first extra-base hit at all this season, even in High-A before his injury.
  • Shortstop Anthony Rodriguez went 2-for-4, hitting the team’s first home run of the season.  Rodriguez hit .224/.352/.352 in the ACL last season across 53 games, with four home runs in his season debut.
  • Mauricio Pierre went 2-for-4 in his ACL debut.  Pierre went .256/.336/.436 in the DSL last season, with seven doubles, a triple, and five home runs.
  • Starter Joe Kemlage, 23, had an excellent start, striking out nine with a walk and a hit allowed in 5.0 innings.  Kemlage was an undrafted free agent signed in 2021, and was able to throw just 6.1 innings in his pro debut, striking out nine to two walks and five hits in 6.1 innings, allowing four runs, but only one was earned.

ACL Giants Orange Notes:

  • Donovan McIntyre had one of only two hits for the Orangemen today, picking up a triple on a 1-for-4 day.  McIntyre hit .203 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run in 18 games in 2021 in the ACL.
  • The starter was Freddery Paulino, allowing four runs in 4.0 innings off of nine hits and a walk, with two strikeouts.  Paulino, 21, is in his fourth pro season and is repeating the ACL.  He had a 4.97 ERA across six starts in 2021 in the ACL.

DSL Giants Black Notes:

  • Eliam Sandoval had the big hit for the team, going 2-for-4 with a home run as he started his second season in the DSL.  Sandoval hit .222 across 38 games with four home runs in 2021 in the DSL.
  • Cuban third baseman Jean Carlos Sio went 1-for-4 in his pro debut.  Sio was a higher budget signing a bit late in the signing period, and at 18, he’s a little old on average for a debut in the DSL.
  • Starter Ricardo Estrada got hurt by some errors behind him, giving up four runs but just one earned in 4.0 innings, off of four hits and no walks.  He struck out just one.  Estrada had a 3.05 ERA in 10 starts in 2021 in the DSL, but had 38 strikeouts to 23 walks in 38.1 innings last year.
