August continued with a number of home runs up and down the system.  One new Giants made his organization debut in Sacramento with one.  Joey Bart and P.J. Hilson each had home runs in their second straight games.  And Victor Bericoto and Ryan Reckley broke home run droughts.

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • Shortstop Johan Carmargo made his Sacramento debut with a bang, going 2-for-5 with a home run.  The Giants are Carmargo’s third organization this season, after he was released by the Detroit Tigers on August 3rd.  Previously, he’d been signed in the offseason by the Kansas City Royals, but was released in June and soon picked up by the Tigers.
  • Joey Bart had his second straight game with a home run, giving him only five home runs of the season.  He was 2-for-5 on the day.  Through 43 games, Bart is batting .238/.341/.391 on the season, with eight doubles and five home runs.
  • Third baseman Tyler Fitzgerald was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a steal, his first since July 26th.  After a slow start to the month, Fitzgerald has gone 11-for-22 (.500)  with five doubles and one home run, plus two walks to two strikeouts.Overall, he’s hitting .287/.345/.495 with 20 steals in 22 attempts, with 17 doubles, two triples, and 14 home runs.
  • Starting pitcher Kai-Wei Teng had another rough game, giving up six runs in 4.0 innings, allowing nine hits and two HBP, while striking out five.  His ERA is 4.64 after ten games in Triple-A, after it was 4.75 in 12 games at Richmond.  He has 53 strikeouts to 25 walks in 42.2 innings.

Top Richmond Performances:

  • Right fielder Victor Bericoto hit his first home run since July 14th as he went 1-for-4.  Bericoto is still hitting just .193 in Double-A after 23 games, with a .256 on-base percentage, and a .349 slugging percentage.
  • Left fielder Ismael Munguia was the only Squirrel with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with a pair of singles.  Munguia is batting .298/.372/.389 after 53 games in Richmond, with 18 walks to 30 strikeouts.
  • Starting pitcher Ryan Murphy gave up two runs in 4.0 innings, on three hits and three walks, while striking out five.  Murphy has a 4.86 ERA with 83 strikeouts to 40 walks in 79.2 innings this season.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • Second baseman Ghordy Santos went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  It was Santos’ 11th home run of the season, and he’s one away from doubling his previous career high, the six he hit in 2022 at Eugene.  Santos is hitting .239/.347/.456  on the year.
  • Shortstop Aeverson Arteaga went 1-for-4 with a home run and a walk.  Arteaga now has 16 home runs, and also has 25 doubles and three triples, with a batting line of .234/.308/.433.
  • Damon Dues had a very interesting day.  Dues went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a strikeout, and stole a base.  In 43 games, Dues has a batting line of .303/.396/.373 batting line with 15 steals in 17 attempts.   But Dues also took the mound in the final inning, after Everett had scored four runs.  Dues struck out two while allowing no baserunners in his first professional pitching appearance.
  • Starting pitcher Trevor McDonald went 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and three walks, while striking out two.  In four games so far at High-A, Eugene has a 0.64 ERA, with 14 strikeouts to five walks in 14.0 innings.

  • P.J. Hilson’s home run August continues, as he hit his second home run in as many games, and his sixth home run of the month (nine games).  After 65 games, Hilson now has ten home runs and ten doubles, with two triples in 65 games this season.  He’s got a batting line of .253/.296/.442.
  • Second baseman Diego Velasquez was 1-for-3 with another double, and a sacrifice fly.  Velasquez now has 27 doubles to go with a triple and seven home runs.  His batting line is .320/.399/.459 on the year.
  • Starting pitcher Seth Corry gave up one run on three hits and a walk in 2.0 innings, with one strikeout.  Corry has a 7.36 ERA in Low-A, and has 10 strikeouts to five walks in 11.0 innings, and has given up 19 hits (a .422 batting average allowed).

  • Shortstop Ryan Reckley hit just his fourth home run of the summer, going 1-for-3 with two strikeouts.  He also made three fielding errors, giving him 19 on the summer.  Through 42 games this season in the ACL, Reckley has four home runs and one double, hitting .164/.329/.266.
  • DH Eliam Sandoval was 1-for-3 with a home run of his own, and a strikeout.  Through 31 games, Sandoval has five doubles and two home runs, with 14 walks to 29 strikeouts, and a line of .222/.343/.344.
  • Second Compensation Round pick Joe Whitman finally made his professional debut, striking out one in a single inning of work.  The left-handed pitcher was a nice pick, drafted in the second compensation round out of Kent State with the 69th pick.

  • Right fielder Bryce Eldridge was 2-for-3 with a double, the team’s only player with multiple hits or extra bases.  Through ten games, Eldridge is 9-for-30 (.300) with two doubles and two home runs, with six walks to nine strikeouts.
  • Starting pitcher Ljay Newsome had one scoreless inning, allowing a hit but nothing else.  Newsome has a 2.92 ERA after eight games in the ACL, with 14 strikeouts to two walks in 12.1 innings.

  • Catcher Jorge Ramirez led the Orange team in hitting, going 3-for-4 with a home run.  Through 17 games, he has two home runs and two doubles, and is batting .241/.353/.379 on the season.
  • Right fielder Luis Frias only played the first part of this game, but was 1-for-1 with a home run.  Frias now has three home runs, a triple, and 15 doubles, with a batting line of .301/.390/.460.
  • The starter was Randry De Leon with a single inning, striking out the side and walking one.  After ten games, he has a 8.46 ERA with 32 strikeouts to 20 walks in 27.2 innings.
