For the first time this season, the Giants minor league system threw a complete game…kinda.  I mean officially, they had one.  But first, it was 7 inning game, in the Dominican Summer League.  Secondly, it was suspended in the middle of it, and the same pitcher happened to pick it up now for the completion!  But hey, it’s still a complete game!  Meanwhile, Casey Schmitt had a home run for his second straight game as he’s starting to get back into a rhythm.

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • Casey Schmitt had his second home run in as many days, going 3-for-4 with a walk, and got caught stealing once.  That gives Schmitt three home runs in 40 games at Triple-A, and after two straight 3-hit games, is hitting .270/.325/.459 after eight games.
  • Tyler Fitzgerald went 2-for-5 with a triple on the day.  Fitzgerald has a batting line of .291/.351/.513 after 75 games in Sacramento, with 17 doubles, four triples, and 15 home runs, with 28 walks to 83 strikeouts.
  • Third baseman David Villar went 3-for-5 with all singles, and stole a base.  Villar has a short 6-game hitting streak, going 12-for-25 (.480) with one home run, and two walks to four strikeouts.  Overall, he’s hitting .278/.373/.494.
  • Starting pitcher Miguel Yajure gave up two runs on three hits and two walks in 4.0 innings, with six strikeouts.  He’s got a 7.68 ERA at Triple-A after ten games now, with 41 strikeouts to 25 walks in 36.1 innings.

Top Richmond Performances:

  • Right fielder had the only Richmond extra-base hit on a quiet offensive day.  That’s just his third double in 26 games at Double-A, to go with a triple and a home run.  He’s got a batting line of .183/.240/.333.
  • Starting pitcher John Michael Bertrand gave up three runs, two earned, off of four hits and two walks, with five strikeouts in five innings.  Bertrand has gone exactly 5.0 innings in 12 of his last 14 starts, going back to May 27th in Eugene.  He has a 3.54 ERA after six games in Double-A, with 23 strikeouts to 10 walks in 28.0 innings.
  • Reliever Ben Madison didn’t allow any hits, but walked three while striking out three in 1.2 innings of work.  Madison has a 3.80 ERA in 11 games at Richmond, with 30 strikeouts to 21 walks in 21.1 innings of work.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • First baseman Luis Toribio picked up his 15th home run, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout.  It’s Toribio’s third home run in his last seven games.  Toribio now has 15 home runs in 84 games at Eugene this season, after hitting 21 home runs in 111 games at Eugene last season.  He’s got a batting line of .231/.344/.430.
  • Aeverson Arteaga went 1-for-3 with two walks and a double.  Arteaga now has 27 doubles, three triples, and 16 home runs in 104 games, though he’s hitting just .240/.311/.440 on the season, with 37 walks and 115 strikeouts.
  • Center fielder Grant McCray was 1-for-3 with two walks, and two stolen bases on the day.  McCray now has 41 walks in 50 attempts this season, with 55 walks to 148 strikeouts.  His batting line is at .249/.348/.407.
  • Starting pitcher Hayden Wynja went 5.0 shutout innings, with eight strikeouts while allowing four hits and one walks.  It’s a good bounceback after Wynja gave up seven runs in his last start.  In six games at High-A, Wynja has a 2.96 ERA with 33 strikeouts to 12 walks in 27.1 innings.

Top San Jose Performances:

  • The only San Jose hit of the game was by left fielder Alexander Suarez, who went 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts.  Suarez has a batting line of .252/.311/.363 over 82 games, with nine doubles, five triples, and five home runs.
  • Esmerlin Vinicio gave up four runs, three earned, in 4.0 innings off of six hits and no walks, with five strikeouts.  It pushed his ERA up to 4.30, with 63 strikeouts to 33 walks in 60.2 innings.

Top DSL Giants Orange Performances:

  • Pitcher Jose Gonzalez threw the first complete game in the Giants minor league system this season, but there’s a couple of asterisks.  The first is that it was only seven innings.  The other is that it was a suspended game!  Gonzalez started on August 4th, and his natural day to start came around again on August 16th for finishing the game.  But hey, it’s a complete game!  He gave up three runs in 7.0 innings off of eight hits and one walk, while striking out ten.  He’s got a 4.35 ERA, with 40 strikeouts to 19 walks in 41.1 innings.
  • Third baseman Jose Astudillo went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.  After 22 games, he’s hitting .358/.418/.481 with six doubles and two triples, but no home runs, with seven walks to four strikeouts (out of 81 at-bats!).
  • Center fielder Erick Arosemena was 2-for-3 plus a HBP, with a steal and got caught stealing once.  Arosemena has a batting line of .257/.359/.303, with 13 walks to 32 strikeouts.
