Sacramento Notes:

  • Willie Calhoun picked up his ninth home run in a short day.  Calhoun was replaced after the fifth inning for an undisclosed reason, but went 2-for-3 before being lifted.  Calhoun now has four home runs and seven doubles since joining Sacramento, and had five home runs and one double with Round Rock before that.
  • David Villar picked up his 27th home run on a 1-for-3 day with a walk and a run scoring HBP.  Villar now has three in the last two games, and five home runs in the last nine games.  He has a Sacramento batting line of .282/.405/.646.
  • Also with a home run was Ford Proctor, going 1-for-4 with his third home run for Sacramento in 11 games.  Proctor had six home runs in 79 games at Durham before coming to the Giants.
  • Austin Dean went 3-for-4, with his fifth triple and 13th double of the season.  Dean has had a solid month so far, batting .302/.388/.512 with two doubles, two triples, and two home runs.
  • Sam Long gave up a run in 3.0 innings, allowing it on two hits and four walks, with four strikeouts.  Since returning to Sacramento, Long has a 3.86 ERA, allowing four runs in 9.1 innings with ten walks to six strikeouts.

AA: Richmond 5, Binghamton 1

Richmond Notes:

  • Tyler Fitzgerald had a wild day, going 3-for-4 with his 14th double, and two home runs, one of which was inside-the-park, to give him 21 and have him pass David Villar’s since-broken single season Richmond home run record.  Fitzgerald has gone 12-for-25 (.480) with three doubles and three home runs over his last six games.
  • Casey Schmitt went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.  In nine games at Richmond, Schmitt’s had multiple hits in five games, and is 13-for-32 (.406) at the level.
  • For a player with 15 career stolen bases across five seasons, and just a 65% successful steal rate, Tyler Mahan just had his most memorable steal.  He went 1-for-4 with a stolen base, but it was a steal of home on a double steal.  In 11 games since joining Richmond, Mahan is batting .290/.395/.548 with two doubles and two home runs.
  • Ofelky Peralta made his first start since joining Richmond, in his fourth appearance, giving up a run in 2.0 innings.  Since coming to Richmond, Peralta has a 7.56 ERA, having given up seven runs on 11 hits, with just three strikeouts to no walks in 8.1 innings.
  • Nick Avila led the way for the pitching staff, going three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk, with three strikeouts.  Avila now has a 0.66 ERA in 10 games, having given up just one run in 13.2 innings, with 15 strikeouts to five walks.

High-A: Hillsboro 5, Eugene 2

Eugene Notes:

  • Vaun Brown finally did something he hadn’t done in Eugene yet, hitting his first triple at the level on a 3-for-4 day.  Brown now has nine doubles and nine home runs along with the triple over 40 games, with a batting line of .351/.441/.608.
  • Marco Luciano went 1-for-4 with his 9th double of the season, in his 44th game of the year.  Since returning to Eugene, Luciano has gone 3-for-13 (.231) with a double and a home run.
  • Carter Williams picked up his sixth double in High-A while going 1-for-3 with a walk.  Williams has a .236/.272/.406 batting line in his 30 games at Eugene, around his 42-game stint in San Jose.
  • Carson Seymour gave up five runs, four earned, on five hits and two walks in 5.0 innings, with five strikeouts.  In three games since the trade, Seymour now has a 4.50 ERA with 17 strikeouts to five walks in 14.0 innings.

Low-A: San Jose 16, Inland Empire 1

San Jose Notes:

  • Jared Dupere led the Giants, going 3-for-4 with two walks and his 10th home run with San Jose.  Through 29 games since his promotion from Arizona, Dupere is batting .304/.385/.617 with four doubles, a triple, and ten home runs.  
  • The other San Jose home run came off the bat of DH Ronaldo Flores, in his 16th game with San Jose.  It’s his fourth overall this season, all in San Jose, where he’s hitting .290/.318/.500.
  • Grant McCray went 2-for-6 with his 21st double of the year.  With 103 games under his belt, McCray has 21 doubles, nine triples, and 20 home runs.
  • Starter Trevor McDonald gave up just one run in 6.0 innings, allowing six hits and a season-high five walks, with four strikeouts.  McDonald has a 2.32 ERA with 98 strikeouts to 37 walks in 85.1 innings on the season.

ACL: ACL Giants Orange 5, ACL Giants Black 3

ACL Giants Black Notes:

  • Shortstop Dilan Rosario went 2-for-3 with his 8th double of the season, the only extra base hit for the Black team.  Rosario is currently batting .230/.319/.370 with eight doubles and two home runs in 35 games at Arizona.
  • P.J. Hilson also picked up a pair of hits, both singles, going 2-for-4.  In his fourth season in Arizona, Hilson is batting .287/.378/.534.
  • Starting pitcher Miguel Mora struck out a season-high tying eight in 4.0 innings, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks.  Mora now has 78 strikeouts to 26 walks in 54.2 innings.
  • Returning to the mound was Ryan Murphy, working a single inning in the middle of the game, giving up a run on two hits, one of which was a home run.  It’s Murphy’s first game since July 6th when back problems sidelined him.  Murphy also missed the first six weeks of the season with back issues.

ACL Giants Orange Notes:

  • Rehabbing shortstop Will Wilson went 2-for-4 with a double, his third in his eight games of rehab.  He’s batting .480/.567/.720 while in rehab.
  • Designated hitter Diego Velasquez went 2-for-2 with two walks and his first home run of his summer.  Velasquez is batting .275/.367/.353 with five doubles, two triples, and one home run on the year.
  • Starter Ty Weber went 4.0 shutout innings with two hits allowed and three strikeouts in his second rehab appearance.  He has a 3.86 ERA in two Arizona games.  At this point, the only US-based level that Weber hasn’t thrown at this season is in Low-A.

DSL Giants Black Notes:

  • Right fielder Guillermo Williamson went 1-for-2 with a walk and a HBP, hitting his 12th double of the season.  Williamson is batting .225/.341/.393 with 12 doubles and six home runs on the summer.
  • Shortstop Ramon Peralta went 2-for-4 with a pair of the singles.  It’s Peralta’s second 2-hit game in a row, as he raised his batting line to .243/.390/.365.
  • Starting pitcher Jilber Canas gave up seven runs, four earned, on six hits and two walks in just 1.2 innings, with two strikeouts.  It was Canas’ first start in 17 appearances this summer.  He’s got 25 strikeouts to 18 walks in 23.1 innings, with 27 runs allowed, 21 of which are earned.

  • Third baseman Jhosward Camacho managed one of the Orange team’s four hits.  On the year, Camacho is batting .288/.375/.381  with six doubles a triple, and a home run.
  • Starter Argenis Perez gave up just one unearned run in 5.0 innings, on three hits and four walks, with four strikeouts.  Perez has a 4.40 ERA in 13 games this season, two of which have been starts.
