AAA: Sacramento 7, Reno 5

Sacramento Notes:

  • Arismendy Alcántara hit his second triple of the month, and 4th of the season.  Alcántara has been dealing with a difficult month, having gone just 6-for-31 (.194) in August.
  • Joey Bart returned from the Injured List, missing nearly three weeks with a strained quad, to go 2-for-4.  In a season with minor interruptions, Bart has 63 strikeouts to 16 walks in 198 at-bats.
  • Heliot Ramos has strung together four games with two hits, and has six such games in the last eight.  Before the eight games, he had a Triple-A batting average of .232, and it’s now up to .279.
  • Scott Kazmir had a remarkably similar start to his last one, allowing three runs in 4.0 innings, though he allowed one more hit and one more walk than his last start.  His Triple-A ERA is up to 4.91.
  • Sacramento was technically the road team despite playing in the state capital, as the game was moved from its planned host of Reno due to air quality.  The teams will continue to play in Sacramento in an empty stadium through at least Sunday.

AA: Richmond 6, Altoona 3

Richmond Notes:

  • David Villar hit his third home run in the last five games, giving him 17 on the season.
  • Sandro Fabian had a 3-hit game, with his 10th double of the season.  He has 13 home runs and a triple to go with those doubles in 77 games this season.
  • Will Wilson had just his second 3-hit game since his promotion to Double-A, raising his batting average to .195 over 39 games.
  • Trenton Toplikar had his second start in a row of allowing just two runs, but he collected just one strikeout for the second time this season.  He has 82 strikeouts in 84.2 innings this season, with 34 walks.
  • Patrick Ruotolo came out with an injury in the middle of the second batter he faced.  There was no obvious injury, but the Altoona broadcaster noted he came out “with a ginger walk”.  No further word on his injury was available.

High-A: Tri-City 3, Eugene 1

Eugene Notes:

  • Brett Auerbach’s 2-hit game was his third of the last six games.  Auerbach is batting .289/.396/.622 in the month of August.
  • Franklin Labour broke out of a 8-game hitless streak with a 2-hit game.  On the month, Labour is batting just 7-for-71 (.099) with two doubles, a triple, and a home run.
  • Ryan Murphy had another strong start to round out August.  In five starts in the month at Eugene, he’s gone at least 5 innings every start with at least seven strikeouts each game.   He’s got 40 strikeouts and eight walks in 27.1 innings.

Low-A: Lake Elsinore 12, San Jose 5

San Jose Notes:

  • For the second time in three games, Harrison Freed went 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Freed has just six doubles all season, and four have come in those last three games.
  • Jimmy Glowenke picked up a pair of walks and his 23rd double of the season.  Glowenke has eight walks to 30 strikeouts in 78 at-bats in August, and most of his walks have come in spurts, with two 2-walk games and a 3-walk game accounting for all but one of them.
  • Kyle Harrison had his longest start since July 11th, going 5.0 innings and striking out nine.  Harrison has 129 strikeouts on 82.2 IP, with 46 walks.

ACL: ACL Angels 1, ACL Giants Black 0

ACL Giants Black Notes:

  • Catcher Max Wright had a double for the team’s only extra-base hit.    Wright has a 4-game hitting streak going after four hitless games.  He got his batting average over .200 for the first time since his first few games of the season.
  • Esmerlin Vinicio had another solid start.  Over five starts in August, he’s allowed one run or less in four of them.  In 20.2 innings this month, he has 27 strikeouts to seven walks.

ACL Giants Orange Notes:

  • Aeverson Arteaga picked up a pair of hits, extending his hit streak to six games.  After slugging seven home runs and seven doubles in July, he has just two doubles and a triple so far in the month of August.
  • Sonny Vargas had one of his best starts of the season, going a season-high-tying six innings, and a season-high with nine strikeouts.  On the season, he has 66 strikeouts to 18 walks in 51.0 innings.

DSL Giants Black Notes:

  • Diego Villegas had his second 2-hit game in the last three, and added in his first double of the summer.  He’s got one double and one triple for extra base hits out of 11 total hits this summer.
  • After his 7-game hitting streak was broken, Jose Ramos responded with his third 2-hit game of the summer.  He’s batting .333/.400/.667 in 14 games.
  • Jorge Martinez had his third start out of four this season collecting six strikeouts.  Overall, in 18.0 IP, he’s got 20 strikeouts to five walks.

DSL Giants Orange Notes:

  • Jediael Maduro’s first extra-base hit of the season is a home run in his 15th game.  He’s got a batting line of .217/.357/.283 on the summer.
  • Cesar Quintas hit a double, his first since August 5th and fourth of the season.  He’s 12-for-53 (.226) on the season.
  • Daniel Rondon hit season highs in both innings pitched and strikeouts on the season.  He gave up two earned runs in 4.0 innings, and that still lowered his ERA from 11.00 to 9.00.
