On Wednesday, the San Francisco Giants officially announced several minor league signings with invitations to Spring Training.

The list is a mix of returning Giants prospects, and new free agent signings, as well as some that had been previously announced.

RHP Melvin Adon, 26, was not added to the 40-man roster by the Giants ahead of the Rule 5 draft, although he was in the system.  Although a hard-throwing prospect, he has struggled to translate the velocity into game results.  In 2019, he had a 4.72 ERA in 48 games, with 77 strikeouts but 34 walks in 55.1 innings.  He has a career 4.41 ERA across five seasons.  Adon was recently injured in winter league ball, but the severity of the injury is unknown.  He remains vulnerable to this week’s draft.

RHP Rico Garcia returns to the Giants as well, after getting non-tendered ahead of the Rule 5 draft.  Garcia appeared in 12 games for the Giants in 2020, with a 5.40 ERA.  He signed with the Giants as a minor league free agent after making his Major League debut with the Colorado Rockies in 2019, where he had 10.50 ERA in two appearances.  He had a 4.24 ERA in the minors in 2019 across Double-A and Triple-A.

RHP Daniel Alvarez joins the Giants after playing in the Yankees organization.  Alvarez had a 2.31 ERA in 46 games for Double-A Trenton, with 76 strikeouts in 58.1 innings, with 23 walks.  The 24-year old also had a scoreless appearance in Triple-A. He was at the Yankees alternate training site in 2020, but did not make a Major League appearance.

LHP Anthony Banda, 27, returns to the Giants after being a midseason acquisition, traded for cash after being DFA’d by the Tampa Bay Rays.  Banda had a 10.29 ERA in 4 appearances with the Rays in 2020, and had a combined 5.67 ERA across three minor league teams in 2019 with a 6.75 MLB era in three appearances, all in 2019.

RHP Silvino Bracho, 28, was actually signed in November by the Giants as a free agent away from the Arizona Diamondbacks.  He has made scattered appearances over five seasons, with a 4.82 career major league ERA in 92 games (89.2 IP).

IF/OF Jason Krizan, 31, was also signed last month.  In 2019, he had a .275/.358/.469 slash line across Double-A and Triple-A, and had been claimed by the Oakland Athletics away from the Detroit Tigers after the 2019 season.  He did not make an appearance for the A’s in 2020.

LHP Sam Long, 25, was signed last month alongside Krizan.  Long has a career 2.95 ERA across three seasons, missing all of 2018 with an injury.  Most recently, he had a 3.06 ERA as a swingman with Low-A Kannapolis in the Chicago White Sox organization.

RHP Dominic Leone, 29, was designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians late in the 2020 season.  He had a 8.38 ERA in 12 games for Cleveland this season, and has a 4.09 career ERA across seven seasons.  His best year was 2017, when he had a 2.56 ERA in 65 games for the Toronto Blue Jays, collecting 11 holds and one save.

RHP Yunior Marte, 25, signs with the Giants as a minor league free agent out of the Kansas City Royals organization.  He spent 2019 as a reliever in Double-A and Triple-A, with a 1.59 ERA in 23 games at the lower level, and a 6.16 ERA in 23 games at the higher level.  He spent 2020 at the Royals alternate site, but did not make his Major League debut.

Raffi Vizcaino, 25, stayed with the Giants despite free agency, signing back with the team in November.  He had a 3.66 ERA in Double-A at Richmond, and had 44 strikeouts against 27 walks in 46.2 innings.  He has a career 3.92 ERA across seven minor league seasons.

RHP Sam Wolff, 29, also stays with the Giants after becoming a free agent. Wolff had a combined 2.87 ERA across three levels (mostly in Double-A) in 2019, and has a career 3.47 ERA in six minor league seasons.  He was traded to the Giants in the offseason after 2017 as part of the trade that sent Matt Moore to the Texas Rangers.
