The San Francisco Giants got some bad news from their bullpen again, and have lost another pitcher to the knife.

Rico Garcia, who pitched in 12 games for the Giants in 2020, will be getting Tommy John surgery, according to a report from KHON2 in Hawaii.  Garcia had a 3.86 ERA in three appearances this spring, with three strikeouts and no walks in 2.1 innings.  Garcia last appeared in a game on March 19th, when he gave up his only run on the spring.

Garcia will miss all of 2021 for sure, and will likely miss a significant portion of 2022 depending on his recovery.

Garcia, 27, was claimed by the Giants off waivers in November of 2019, but was later waived from the 40-man roster and signed to a minor league deal.  However, he was promoted to the big league team early in the delayed 2020 season.  He had a 5.40 ERA in 12 games, with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks in 10 innings.
