AAA: Sacramento 8, Tacoma 2

Sacramento Notes:

  • Bryce Johnson’s 4-hit game was the kind of breakout he had been missing since early in the year.  He hit just his first double of the month of June, and the home run was his second of the month.  He now has as many doubles and home runs together as triples in the month (and the season).
  • Will Toffey hit his first home run with Sacramento, in his 7th game with the team.  Toffey hit .178/.317/.386 in 34 games with Double-A Binghamton before the Giants picked him up in trade for Anthony Banda.
  • Joey Bart hit a double for his second game in a row, and his 11th of the season.  Bart is batting .319/.383/.552 on the season, with 51 strikeouts and 13 walks in 180 plate appearances.
  • Sam Wolff made his first start since 2016 in an opener role for a bullpen game.  Wolff bounced back from giving up three runs his last time out, which were his first runs allowed of the season.
  • Kervin Castro had his longest outing of the season, going three innings, and was perfect in it, striking out a season-high tying six.  In 30.0 IP, he has 43 strikeouts and 16 walks.
  • Mauricio Dubón picked up another two hits, and has hits in 10 of his last 11 games.  He’s batting .392/.473/.468 in Sacramento.

Richmond Notes:

  • Will WIlson hit his second home run in Double-A, and his first since July 17th.  Wilson is batting .214/.286/.343 after 17 games at Double-A.
  • It took Luis Alexander Basabe just two games to hit his first home run at Double-A in his rehab.  He’s 2-for-9 at Richmond after going 10-for-27 in the ACL.
  • Brandon Martorano hit his third home run at Richmond.  It took him 15 games to do so, and he now has more home runs than he had in High-A Eugene (2) in 25 games there.
  • Starter Aaron Blair made his Giants debut with a 2-inning start.  Blair was signed by the Giants out of the Atlantic League.  Blair last played in affiliated ball with Atlanta in 2018, and he had shoulder surgery that cost him the 2019 season.  He signed on with the Diamondbacks for 2020, but was released during the coronavirus pandemic.  He played in the Constellation Energy League in 2020, a makeshift 4-team independent league that played in Texas.
  • Diego Rincones hit his first triple of the season, in either Double-A or High-A.  In 15 games, he has yet to hit a double at Double-A.  He’s batting .245/.356/.469 with Richmond.

High-A: Hillsboro 3, Eugene 2

Eugene Notes:

  • Ricardo Genovés’ power has come in over the last week-plus, but it’s had a downside.  He’s homered four times in the last eight games, but he’s also 6-for-27 (.222) over that span.  He’s hitting just .206 for the month of July in High-A.
  • Carter Aldrete has hit five home runs in July, but hit just his first double of the month, and only his second since he came back from injury in late June.
  • Ismael Munguia went for two hits for the third straight game, and doubled for the second consecutive game.  That gives him 10 doubles on the season, to go with a triple and five home runs.
  • Aaron Phillips had one of his better games of the season, though he only went 4.1 innings.  He’s allowed two earned runs or less in only four starts this season.

Low-A: San Jose 8, Stockton 1

San Jose Notes:

  • Jimmy Glowenke hit his fourth home run of the season, and first since July 11th.  He’s having a fantastic July, batting .346 (27-for-78), with a .446 OBP and a .615 SLG.  He’s got nine doubles and all four of his home runs on the month.
  • Abdiel Layer hit his seventh home run, and his first since June 6th.  After five home runs in May, his power stroke has run dry.
  • Jairo Pomares hit his 10th home run.  Over his last six games, he’s 10-for-23 (.435) with three doubles and two home runs.
  • Alexander Canario picked up his 14th double of the season, but also picked up two more walks.  In 266 plate appearances, he’s got 32 walks to 76 strikeouts.
  • Luis Matos hit his 20th double of the season, which is part of a 4-way tie for 4th in the league.  Matos is batting .298/.333/.462.
  • Prelander Berroa had his best game of the season.  He struck out a season-high nine for the second straight game, and allowed just one hit.  On the season, he’s struck out 80 with 29 walks in 58.1 IP.
