As a top prospect debuted in the big leagues, there was still highlights in the minors.  Vaun Brown made three steals, including an absolutely amazing straight steal of home that says everything about the type of player he is.  Meanwhile, Eugene had three home runs, including two by Carter Williams and a walkoff by Aeverson Arteaga!

AAA: Sacramento 8, Albuquerque 1

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • Donovan Walton was 2-for-5 with a home run in his first game back in Triple-A.  Walton just finished eight games in Double-A, going 7-for-25 (.280) with two home runs, and had 30 rehab games on his road back in total.  In 2022, Walton got into 20 games with Sacramento after the trade, hitting .225/.345/.352 with six doubles and a home run, and 12 walks to 13 strikeouts.
  • Ricardo Genovés was at first, going 1-for-3 with two walks and a strikeout, hitting his fourth home run in 56 games.  Overall, Genovés is batting .249/.345/.373 with nine doubles and four home runs.
  • Tyler Fitzgerald split time between shortstop and center field, going 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base, plus a HBP.  That gives Fitzgerald 11 doubles to go with two triples and 12 home runs, and now has 19 steals in 21 attempts.  Overall, he’s hitting .289/.349/.496 in 59 games at Sacramento.
  • Despite being in an offensive city, Sean Hjelle had a great start, going 6.0 shutout innings, with three hits and two walks, striking out three.  It was Hjelle’s first Triple-A game without allowing a run since May 14th.  It lowered his ERA to 5.07 after 14 games, and now has 46 strikeouts to 23 walks in 60.1 innings.

Top Richmond Performances:

  • Right fielder Vaun Brown was a terror on the basepaths, as he was 1-for-3 with a walk, and stole three bases, including a heads-up straight steal of home.  In 44 games with Richmond, Brown now has 15 steals, and he has 20 if you include the additional nine games as he worked his way back up.  He has 11 walks to 70 strikeouts, and a batting line of .237/.294/.457. (Seriously, watch this first highlight at least.)
  • Shane Matheny was at shortstop, and went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks.  The double was Richmond’s only extra-base hit.  That gives him nine doubles, plus four home runs, and has a batting line of .229/.338/.407 with 19 walks to 37 strikeouts.
  • Starting pitcher Carson Seymour pitched 4.0 innings, giving up five hits and two walks with three runs allowed, while striking out five.  That lowers Seymour’s ERA to 4.06, and he has 64 strikeouts to 32 walks in 77.2 innings.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • Carter Williams led the team in regulation, hitting two home runs on a 2-for-4 day.  That gives Williams three home runs in 12 games at High-A, after recently returning from Double-A Richmond.  In High-A, he’s batting .239/.271/.478.
  • Shortstop Aeverson Arteaga led the way in extra-innings, hitting a 3-run walkoff home run in the 10th inning, his 13th of the season on a 1-for-5 with a strikeout.  Arteaga has a batting line of .225/.304/.414 over 87 games this season.
  • Starting pitcher Daniel Blair went 4.0 hitless innings, not allowing any runs, but allowing four walks while striking out two.  It was a much needed game for Blair in his third at the level, after he’d allowed 13 runs in 7.2 innings over his first two starts.  He lowered his Eugene ERA from 15.26 to 10.03.

Top San Jose Performances:

  • San Jose’s biggest hit was by Andrew Kachel, who went 1-for-4 with a triple, a walk and two strikeouts.  Kachel now has two triples, along with 17 doubles and five home runs, with 36 walks and 69 strikeouts.  He’s hitting .292/.381/.446.
  • Center fielder Turner Hill was 2-for-2 with two walks and was hit by a pitch.  The perfect OBP day pushed Hill’s on-base numbers from .326 to .344.  He’s batting .263/.344/.325 with 18 walks to 23 strikeouts.
  • Starting pitcher Dylan Cumming gave up a pair of runs on 4.0 innings, with four hits and two walks, while striking out six.  With just his third start start of the season in 26 appearances, he has an ERA of 2.43 with 53 strikeouts to 23 walks in 55.2 innings.

  • First baseman Rayner Santana went 1-for-3 with a double, his third of the summer.  Santana now has three doubles and three home runs in 19 games between both ACL teams.
  • Third baseman Elian Rayo went 1-for-3.  Through 36 games, Rayo has a .252/.374/.486 batting line, with seven doubles and six home runs.
  • Starter Trevor McDonald didn’t give up any earned runs, but gave up four unearned off of four hits and a walk, with two strikeouts.  McDonald has 12 strikeouts to three walks in 9.2 innings.

  • DH Carlos Gutierrez was 4-for-5 with a double as he finished what technically was his first game of the summer, finishing a 4-hit game.  The double is his only extra-base hit of the summer.  After 12 games, he’s batting .366/.480/.390 on the summer.
  • 1B Wueslly Lespe was 2-for-3 on the day.  He’s hitting .212/.454/.273 with 28 walks to 28 strikeouts.
  • Brayan Cabello was the reliever who took over after the restart, giving up one unearned run in 4.0 innings, off of three hits and a walk with six strikeouts.  He’s got a 4.98 ERA, with 24 strikeouts to eight walks.

  • DH Lisbel Diaz was 1-for-2 on a quiet day (two days?) for the DSL Orange team.  Diaz has a batting line of .417/.517/.667 over seven games this summer.
  • Reliever Miguel Ramos had the best pitching game, going 3.0 innings, striking out four while allowing just one hit. Ramos has a 5.73 ERA with 11 strikeouts to ten walks in 11.0 innings.
