In a game filled with home runs, Marco Luciano finally got that first Triple-A home run.  But the surprising Sacramento team leader in home runs hit one as well.  Meanwhile Sean Roby is looking great on his rehab trail in Eugene, and starter Nick Sinacola leads a shutout effort.

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • Shortstop Marco Luciano hit his first home run at Triple-A, on a 1-for-4 day with three strikeouts.  After five games at the level, Luciano is 6-for-20 (.300) with two doubles and one home run, with two walks to eight strikeouts.  He has a total of 12 home runs this season after a late start in early May.
  • First baseman Armando Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run on the day.  That’s Alvarez’s fourth home run of the season in just 30 games at Sacramento.  He’s hitting .323/.378/.515 so far at Triple-A after missing just under two months from mid-April to early June.
  • Will Wilson, playing second base, went 1-for-3 with his team-leading 12th home run of the season, plus two strikeouts.  Over 86 games this season, Wilson is hitting .227/.304/.394, with 10 doubles and 12 home runs, but with 31 walks to 81 strikeouts.

Top Richmond Performances:

  • Right fielder Ismael Munguia was one of three players with doubles in this light offensive game.  Munguia went 1-for-3 with a double.  In three games since returning from injury, Munguia is 4-for-13 (.308) with two doubles, with one walk and two strikeouts.  Overall at Double-A, he’s hitting .308/.357/.462.
  • Jimmy Glowenke, at DH, was 1-for-2 with his 13th double and was also hit by a pitch.  After a slow start at Richmond, Glowenke is getting hot, with a 6-game hitting streak.  He’s 10-for-24 (.417) with three doubles and two home runs in the streak.  He’s hitting .225/.311/.375.
  • Reliever Evan Gates had a strong day at the end of this game.  He struck out five in 3.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk.  Gates now has 48 strikeouts to 19 walks in 33.1 innings at Richmond this season, with a 3.78 ERA to show for it.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • First baseman Sean Roby went 2-for-4 on the day, picking up a home run and a double.  He has three doubles and four home runs in eight games since returning to High-A.  His Eugene batting line is .294/.333/.735.
  • Right fielder Carter Howell was 1-for-4 with a double, and got two strikeouts.  That gives him eight doubles in Eugene, along with four triples, as he’s hitting .226 in 40 games at the level.  Before that, in 39 games at San Jose, he had nine doubles, four triples, and four home runs while hitting .337.
  • Starter Nick Sinacola went 5.0 shutout innings, giving up just two hits and no walks, while striking out three.  That’s two straight 5.0 inning shutout appearances for Sinacola, both against Hillsboro.  In those 10.0 innings, he struck out seven and had just one walk.  Overall, he now has a 4.69 ERA with 84 strikeouts to 22 walks.
  • Reliever Seth Lonsway finished things off with 4.0 shutout innings of his own, allowing two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  It’s only the second game of the season in which Lonsway did not allow any runs, the other one coming on June 4th over 2.2 innings.  He has a 5.72 ERA with 54 strikeouts to 36 walks in 61.1 innings.

Top San Jose Performances:

  • Right fielder P.J. Hilson had a huge game, picking up a triple and two doubles on a 4-for-5 day.  After 50 games, Hilson now has seven doubles and two triples, with three home runs.  He’s hitting .233/.280/.347.
  • Turner Hill was 4-for-6 with a double and a stolen base.  It’s Hill’s second 4-hit game of the season, and boosted his batting average from .236 to .253.  He’s got ten doubles after 38 games, and is hitting .253/.324/.318.
  • Starting pitcher Gerelmi Maldonado gave up one run in 4.0 innings, off of two hits, four walks, and a HBP, with four strikeouts.  He has six games this season (out of 18) in which he’s allowed four walks, and has 75 strikeouts to 38 walks in 60.1 innings.
  • Reliever Tyler Vogel gave up just one unearned run in 3.0 innings, giving up three hits and no walks, while striking out five.  Through 28 games, Vogel has 51 strikeouts to 23 walks in 41.1 innings.
