We don’t highlight the Dominican Summer League often at the top of these posts, but Jose Rengel led a 7-inning no-hitter for the DSL Orange team.  Meanwhile, Ismael Munguia continues to hit well in Richmond since his return, and Aeverson Arteaga’s home run streak continues after his walk-off last night.

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • Shortstop Donovan Walton was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second straight game with Sacramento, since his promotion.  It gives him four total on the season out of 32 total games as he has come back from injury, the other two coming in Double-A.  In two games since joining Triple-A, he’s 3-for-9 with the two home runs, and one strikeout to no walks.
  • Playing left field, Jakson Reetz was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  In 21 games since joining Sacramento, Reetz has two home runs in 21 games, in addition to four home runs in 37 games with Triple-A Omaha before that.  He’s hitting .236/.321/.417 as a Cat.  Reetz was a full-time catcher in Omaha, but has played 13 games in left field with Sacramento and just six as a catcher.
  • Starting pitcher Kai-Wei Teng had a bit of a rough one, giving up four runs in 5.0 innings, off of eight hits and two walks, with three strikeouts.  Teng’s ERA jumped up to 3.64 after seven Triple-A games, and he has 33 strikeouts to 20 walks in 29.2 innings.
  • Reliever Nick Swiney went 2.0 shutout innings, off of two hits and no walks, with two strikeouts.  Swiney’s had a rough month in July, having given up five runs in 7.1 innings, but overall in Triple-A he has a 3.65 ERA with 20 strikeouts to 15 walks in 24.2 innings.

  • Ismael Munguia continues his torrid pace since his return to Double-A.  He was 3-for-4 with a walk, and his tenth steal with Richmond.    In six games back, Munguia has at least a hit in each, and is 11-for-25 (.440) with two doubles, and two walks to two strikeouts.  His overall numbers are .323/.384/.445 at Richmond in 39 games, and he now has 10 steals in 14 attempts.
  • Center fielder Wade Meckler had the team’s only extra-base hit, going 2-for-4 with a triple, plus a walk.  That’s his second triple in 37 games, and he has 23 walks to 26 strikeouts.  His Richmond batting line is .343/.434/.455.
  • Reliever Ben Madison went 3.0 innings without giving up a hit, allowing one run on three walks, while notching four strikeouts.  Madison now has 13 strikeouts to 12 walks in 11.0 innings, with a 4.91 ERA.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • Shortstop Aeverson Arteaga came off his walk-off home run and hit another in his first at-bat tonight, and his third game in a row with a home run.  On the 2-for-4 day, Arteaga now has 14 home runs, tying his career high for a season total, though he also committed his 10th error of the season.  In 88 games, Arteaga’s hitting .228/.306/.424 with 19 doubles, three triples, and 14 home runs.
  • Center fielder Carter Howell was 2-for-4 on the day, with a home run and a double.  That gives him nine doubles in 42 games at High-A, and now his first High-A home run.  He has a .228/.314/.347 batting line, with 20 walks to 42 strikeouts.
  • Second baseman Brett Auerbach was 2-for-3 with a double, his ninth of the season.  In 34 games since coming back to Eugene, his batting line is .208/.386/.352, with 11 walks to 37 strikeouts, and nine double and three home runs.
  • Starting pitcher Eric Silva had a strong game, with 4.0 shutout innings, allowing only a hit, two walks, and one HBP, while striking out only two.  It’s Silva’s first game without allowing a run in 13 games.  In 17 games, he had a 5.34 ERA with 53 strikeouts to 32 walks in 57.1 innings.

Top San Jose Performances:

  • Jose Ramos led the way for San Jose, going 3-for-5, knocking in six runs with the help of a home run and a double.  That gives him 15 doubles and two home runs through 78 games, and he’s batting .215/.311/.307 on the season.
  • Right fielder P.J. Hilson also had a home run, going 1-for-3 with a walk.  That gives him four home runs on the season in 53 games, and his first home run since June 29th.  He’s hitting .234/.282/.362 this season.
  • Catcher Zach Morgan was 2-for-3 with a walk with two doubles, plus a sacrifice fly.  Morgan now has 43 walks to 45 strikeouts, and a batting line of .254/.376/.383.
  • Starting pitcher Nomar Medina went 5.0 shutout innings, striking out six with four hits and three walks.  Medina has two games without allowing any runs in his last three starts, as he has dropped his ERA from 6.18 to 5.12.

  • First baseman Derwin Laya was 2-for-3 with a home run, but was caught stealing once.  Laya has four home runs and four doubles on the season, with a .284/.346/.422 batting line.
  • Second baseman Javier Francisco was 2-for-3 with two doubles.  That gives him five doubles, matching his previous season high.  With 22 walks and 19 strikeouts, he’s got a .247/.417/.494 batting line.
  • Starting pitcher Mikell Manzano went 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, while striking out five.  Through four games on his rehab in the ACL, he has a 3.18 ERA with 11 strikeouts to just one walk in 5.2 innings.

  • Center fielder Carlos Gutierrez was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, plus a HBP.  Gutierrez has two doubles and a triple in 13 games this summer.  He’s got a batting line of .378/.481/.467, with eight walks and three strikeouts.
  • Shortstop Keiberg Camacaro was 1-for-2 with two walks, plus a stolen base.  Camacaro has 19 walks versus 41 strikeouts in 31 games this season, with a .205/.350/.357 batting line.
  • Starting pitcher Ankeily Feliz went 4.0 shutout innings, striking out five while giving up only one hit and no walks.  He lowered his ERA to 2.78, and now has 26 strikeouts to 11 walks in 22.2 innings.

  • The DSL Orange pitching staff threw a 7-inning no-hitter, led by starter Jose Rengel’s 5.0 innings.  He struck out four and allowed just one walk and one wild pitch.  Rengel lowered his ERA to 5.46, and now has 30 strikeouts to 11 walks in 29.2 innings.
  • Reliever Ken Salas wrapped thing ups in 2.0 innings, striking out two without allowing any baserunners.  That lowered his ERA to 4.86, and he has 16 strikeouts to seven walks.
  • Designated hitter Oswaldo Ladera, going 1-for-3 with a double, his third of the summer.  Ladera has three doubles and two walks, with a batting line of .271/.423/.376.
