It was a hot Friday, and teams were scoring big runs all over the place, but not always in the Giants favor.  Four home runs for Sacramento at Albuquerque powered that win, including two more by Armando Alvarez.  Meanwhile Carter Howell had a home run and a double to lead Eugene and have a breakout game, while Grant McCray scored on a sacrifice fly…from second.

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • The baseballs were flying out again in Albuquerque, and Armando Alvarez had his second game of the roadtrip with two home runs and two doubles on a 4-for-5 day.  That gives him eight home runs in 34 games with Sacramento, a solid half of them coming in the last four days in New Mexico.  He also has eight doubles with the team.  He’s hitting .353/.403/.647 on the season with Sacramento.
  • Catcher Jakson Reetz only had one hit, going 1-for-4 with a HBP, but made the most of it by making that one hit a grand slam.  It’s his second game in a row with a home run, and that is Reetz’s third home run in 22 games with Sacramento, and seventh overall on the season.  He’s hitting .237/.326/.447 with the Cats.
  • Also getting another home run was Tyler Fitzgerald, on a 1-for-5 with with a walk.  It’s Fitzgerald’s second home run on this trip, and it gives him 13 home runs in 61 games at Sacramento, and 15 home runs overall including 19 more games in Double-A.  He’s got a .286/.348/.498 batting line in Triple-A, with the 13 home runs, 11 doubles and two triples.
  • Bryce Johnson co-led the team in hits, going 4-for-5 with a walk, a double, and one stolen base in two attempts.  Johnson’s got a Triple-A batting line of .299/.373/.512.
  • Sean Newcomb took the opener role, making just his first start of the season, going 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.  He’s got a 3.38 ERA with 31 strikeouts to 13 walks in 21.1 innings.

Top Richmond Performances:

  • With one of only three hits in this game, Logan Wyatt had the only extra-base hit, going 1-for-3 with a double.  That’s his fifth double since coming up to Double-A.  In 27 games at the level, Wyatt is now 20-for-80 (.25) with a .358 OBP and a .425 slugging percentage.
  • Victor Bericoto was 1-for-3 as well, though with a single.  Bericoto hasn’t been able to play regularly since coming up to Double-A, with 12 games since debuting on July 5th.  He’s hitting just .122/.200/.268 in those 12 games.
  • Starting pitcher Wil Jensen threw 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  It’s just his second start of the season, but he’s had three scoreless appearances out of his last four, and he furthered lowered his ERA to 2.56 on the season.
  • Reportedly, Carson Whisenhunt was a late scratch from this start.  While it’s trade season, reports indicate it’s not a trade, and instead he’s going on the 7-Day IL.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • Right fielder Carter Howell led the team in hitting, going 4-for-5 with a home run and a double.  It’s his second straight game with a double and a home run, giving him ten doubles and two home runs through 43 games at High-A.  Howell jumped his batting average up from .228 to .244 in this game, and has a .326 on-base percentage and a .384 slugging percentage.
  • DH Ghordy Santos went 1-for-3 with two walks and a home run.  That gives Santos’ eighth home run of the season, to go with nine doubles and three triples.  Santos is batting .230/.344/.435 on the year over 60 games.
  • Grant McCray was 3-for-5 with a double and a stolen base.  McCray now has 36 steals in 44 attempts on the summer, as he closes in on his career-high of 43 that he achieved last season.  And as if that weren’t crazy enough, he scored on a sacrifice fly from second base.  He has 18 doubles, six triples and ten home runs, with a line of .253/.347/.416.
  • Starting pitcher Hayden Wynja went 5.0 scoreless innings, giving up three hits, no walks, and one hit batter, while striking out five.  That lowers Wynja’s ERA in Eugene to 1.29 after three games, with 12 strikeouts to seven walks in 14.0 innings.

  • First baseman Andrew Kachel went 1-for-4 with a home run.  That gives Kachel six home runs on the season, with three of them coming in his last seven games.  Kachel has 17 doubles, two triples, and six home runs over 64 games, with a line of .291/.379/.456.
  • Center fielder Turner Hill led the team in hitting, going 3-for-4 with a double.  It was Hill’s third game of at least three hits in the month, as he’s 23-for-69 (.333) on the month.  He now has 11 doubles in 42 games.  He’s batting .269/.354/.335.
  • Reliever Julio Rodriguez had the best performance of the day, going 2.0 innings, facing six batters and striking out all of them.  The season-high six strikeouts give him 51 against 21 walks in 42.1 innings, but has a 6.38 ERA after 30 games.

  • Shortstop Ryan Reckley was 1-for-4 with a home run, his third of the season.  After 36 games this summer, Reckley has just three home runs and one double, with a batting line of .159/.345/.252.
  • Right fielder Cesar Quintas was 2-for-5 with a double.  That gives him ten doubles in 34 games this summer, with a batting line of .382/.522/.510 this summer.

  • Shortstop Jean Carlos Sio was 3-for-3 on the day with a sacrifice fly.  That lifted his batting average to .300, to go with a .396 OBP and a .423 slugging percentage.
  • Second baseman Javier Francisco was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double.  THat’s his sixth double of the summer, and he raised his batting line to .265/.432/.518 with 23 walks to 19 strikeouts.
