Today was the final day of the regular season of both the Arizona Complex League and the Dominican Summer League…but three of the teams didn’t even play their final games, so 🤷‍♂️.  Meanwhile, Tyler Fitzgerald hit another home run in Sacramento, and a couple of rehabs began, and one free agent signing finally made his debut.

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • Tyler Fitzgerald hit another home run on a 1-for-5 day, with one strikeout.  Fitzgerald’s strong season in Sacramento continues, as he’s hitting .283/.344/.503 with 16 home runs, four triples, and 17 doubles, plus 30 walks and 88 strikeouts in 79 games.
  • Right fielder Bryce Johnson was also 1-for-5, but he hit a triple while striking out twice.  That’s Johnson’s second triple, along with 11 doubles and seven home runs in 46 games and he’s hitting .289/.357/.479 over 46 games in Sacramento.
  • Catcher Joey Bart went 1-for-2 with a double, adding two walks and a sacrifice fly.  In 49 games at Sacramento, with 26 walks to 56 strikeouts.  He has 11 doubles and five home runs.
  • Mitch Haniger made his first rehab appearance, going 0-for-3 while playing five innings in the field, getting replace in the middle of the 6th.  Haniger was injured on June 13th and hasn’t been played in over two months.  Haniger was hitting .230/.281/.372 in 40 games with San Francisco, where he had nine doubles and four home runs.

Top Richmond Performances:

  • Catcher Andy Thomas had the big hit of the game, knocking in both runs on a 1-for-2 day with a walk.  That’s Thomas’ 11th home run in 94 games with Richmond, to go with 12 doubles and a triple.  Thomas is hitting .215/.313/.360 on the season.
  • Third baseman Sean Roby had Richmond’s other two hits, going 2-for-4 with two singles and two strikeouts.  It’s Roby’s first multi-hit hit game since returning to Richmond eight games ago.  He’s 5-27 (.185) since returning, with a double and a home run.
  • Starting pitcher John Michael Bertrand gave up three runs in 5.0 innings, off of nine hits and one walk, while striking out two.  That ups Bertrand’s ERA to 3.82 in Double-A after seven starts, with 25 strikeouts to 11 walks in 33.0 innings.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • Right fielder Carter Howell hit a home run on a 1-for-5 game.  That’s his fourth home run in 64 games at High-A, which matches how many home runs in 39 games at Low-A.  Howell is hitting .260/.342/.400 with 29 walks to 56 strikeouts.
  • Catcher Zach Morgan went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, and was the only Emerald with multiple hits.  Through 15 games at High-A, Morgan is 16-for-51 (.314) with four doubles and one home run, and two walks to 10 strikeouts.
  • Starting pitcher Hayden Wynja had a difficult game, giving up five runs, though just one earned, in 3.2 innings, off of eight hits, one walk, and just one error, while striking out one.  Wynja has a 2.90 ERA with 34 strikeouts to 13 walks in 31.0 innings at High-A.

Top San Jose Performances:

  • Shortstop Cole Foster had his second home run in San Jose, on a 1-for-2 day with a walk, a HBP, and got caught stealing once.  That’s two home runs in 13 games at High-A, after he had three home runs in seven games in the ACL.  With San Jose, Foster is hitting .222/.263/.389.
  • Designated hitter Scott Bandura was 1-for-2 with a double and a HBP.  Bandura was lifted in the 8th inning, after being hit by a pitch in the lower leg or ankle, in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Bandura is hitting .361/.455/.556 with four doubles and one home run in 11 games at San Jose, with six walks to nine strikeouts.
  • Reliever Julio Rodriguez had the best pitching appearance, striking out five in 2.0 innings, allowing no hits and two walks.  Rodriguez now has 65 strikeouts to 31 walks in 52.1 innings, for an ERA of 6.19.

Top ACL Giants Orange Performances:

  • Right fielder Bryce Eldridge wrapped up his time in Arizona with one more home run, going 1-for-3 with two strikeouts.  That’s five home runs and three doubles in 16 games, with a batting line of .294/.393/.647, with nine walks to 16 strikeouts.
  • Left fielder Estanlin Cassiani went 1-for-3 with one strikeout and one steal.  Through 47 games, Cassiani had a .314/.387/.414 batting line in the ACL, with 12 doubles, on triple, and one home run, with 19 walks to 29 strikeouts, and only five steals on six attempts.
  • John Brebbia began his rehab with an inning of work, not allowing a baserunner while striking out one.  He hasn’t been in a game since June 16th agains the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Brebbia had a 3.14 ERA in 29 games in the Majors with 36 strikeouts against 10 walks in 28.2 innings.
  • Pitcher Joe Ross made his season debut with a single inning of work, allowing just one hit, and striking out none.  The former National had Tommy John surgery in June 2022, and signed with the Giants as a free agent in the offseason.  Ross had a 4.26 ERA over six MLB seasons working mostly as a starter with Washington.
