Mason Black might now be the ace at Sacramento, and he pitched like it today, with eight strikeouts for his second straight start.  Richmond powered to another win in their tight playoff race, behind home runs by Jimmy Glownekie and Yoshi Tsutsugo.  And Damon Dues and Grant McCray in Eugene each picked up two stolen bases.

  • Left fielder Jakson Reetz had the only home run for Sacramento on the day, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.  That’s Reetz’s ninth home run with Sacramento in 37 games played, to go with six doubles and a triple.  He’s hitting .233/.348/.525 on the season.
  • Catcher Joey Bart was 2-for-4 with a double, as well as a throwing error.  That gives him four doubles in his last six games, and he has at least one hit in 10 of his last 11 games.  Bart now has 12 doubles and five home runs in just 50 games played this season, and has a .246/.359/.400 batting line.
  • Right fielder Brett Wisely was 2-for-3 with two singles and walk.  Wisely upped his Triple-A batting line to .297/.435/.503 through 50 games.

  • Second baseman Jimmy Glowenke led the team with hits by going 3-for-5 and hit his 5th home run while with Richmond after 54 games.  He has a batting line of .232/.329/.370 at Double-A, with 22 walks to 44 strikeouts.
  • Left fielder Yoshi Tsutsugo went 2-for-4 with a home run, with a walk and a strikeout in his second game in the organization.  Before his signing with the Giants as a free agent, Tsutsugo played 51 games with Round Rock in Triple-A, with nine doubles, two triples, and six home runs.
  • Catcher Andy Thomas went 2-for-2 with two doubles and three walks.  That’s 49 walks to 92 strikeouts in 95 games, with 14 doubles, one triple, and 11 home runs.  He’s got a batting line of .220/.322/.370.
  • Also with two doubles was first baseman Logan Wyatt, who was 2-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts.  That’s nine doubles in 48 games at Double-A for Richmond, reaching the amount he had in High-A in 53 games.  He’s hitting .234/.322/.390 for the Squirrels.

  • Third baseman Damon Dues went 1-for-3  with a strikeout, and picked up two stolen bases.  That gives Dues 21 steals in 24 attempts in 51 games at Eugene this season.  Dues has a batting line of .307/.411/.387 in High-A this season.
  • Center fielder Grant McCray was 0-for-1 with three walks, and also collected two steals.  That gives McCray a career-high tying 43 stolen bases, which took 52 attempts (he did 42 steals in 53 attempts in 2022.  In 112 games this season, McCray now has 61 walks against 156 strikeouts.
  • Reliever Tanner Kiest struck out six batters in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits as his only baserunners.  Kiest now has 45 strikeouts to 10 walks in 32.0 innings this season at Eugene, with a 4.22 ERA.

Top San Jose Performances:

  • Catcher Luke Shliger was 2-for-4 with a double.  That was his second double in San Jose in 11 games, as he’s 11-for-39 (.282) with five walks to four strikeouts.
  • Center fielder Turner Hill was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a walk, and got caught stealing once.   Hill now has gone four straight games with two hits in each, including two games at Triple-A.  With San Jose, he’s hitting .295/.389/.381 after 61 games there, with 17 doubles and two triples, but no home runs.
  • Starting pitcher Manuel Mercedes gave up three runs in 5.0 innings, giving up five hits and no walks with one strikeout.  Mercedes has an ERA of 3.74 after 23 games this season, with 68 strikeouts to 40 walks in 96.1 innings.
  • There were a ton of moves involving San Jose, both in and out, as the ACL season ended.
