AAA: El Paso 6, Sacramento 3

Sacramento Notes:

  • Arismendy Alcántara picked up his first home run since July 13th, giving him 14 home runs on the season.  Alcántara is 4-for-11 with a triple and a home run for the month of August so far.
  • Chadwick Tromp got his first double, and just his second extra-base hit in eight games since being sent back down to the River Cats.  He also brought his son to the yard, with adorable results.
  • Evan Longoria made his third rehab appearance.  He’s 2-for-10 in those three games.
  • Jason Krizan had his second 2-hit game with a double in his last three games.  Over his past four games, he’s 6-for-16 (.375) with the two doubles, and one walk to four strikeouts.
  • Matt Shoemaker made his Giants debut with five runs in five innings.  This year, in 16 appearances (11 starts) with the Minnesota Twins, he had a 8.06 ERA, but had a 1.80 ERA in four appearances at Minnesota’s Triple-A team in St. Paul.

AA: Richmond 2, Reading 1

Richmond Notes:

  • Matt Frisbee headed back to Double-A Richmond after a couple of months of struggles in Sacramento.  He held Reading hitters to just five hits, with only one being damaging as a home run.  In 11 Sacramento appearances, Frisbee gave up less hits than innings pitched just once.
  • Bryan Torres hit his second double in three games, giving him five on the season in 34 games at Richmond.
  • Jacob Heyward hit his first double since July 4th, giving him nine on the season.  In that span over a month, he’d had just one extra-base hit, a home run on August 1st.
  • Patrick Ruotolo bounced back from allowing a pair of runs in his last outing with a scoreless one.  He picked up his first save since July 2nd.  Ruotolo had picked up four saves in May, but has only gotten two save in the two-plus months since.

High-A: Tri-City 6, Eugene 2

Eugene Notes:

  • On a slow offensive day, Tyler Fitzgerald continued his run with his 4th straight game with multiple hits.  He’s 12-for-17 (.706) over that span with four doubles, a triple, and a home run.
  • Armani Smith also got a pair of hits, raising his batting line to .282/.354/.465.  Smith is coming off a cold July in which he hit .203.
  • Marco Luciano has had a strikeout problem since his promotion to Eugene, though his first few games.  In 18 at-bats, he has 10 strikeouts (to go with two hits and no walks).
  • Ryan Murphy has given up five runs in Eugene over two stars, but none of them have been earned.  He has 16 strikeouts to three walks in 10.1 innings.
  • After striking out six in 2.0 innings his last game, John Russell followed that up with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning.  In Eugene, he has 42 strikeouts in 31.0 innings to 18 walks.

Low-A: Fresno 4, San Jose 3

San Jose Notes:

  • Luis Toribio hit two more doubles, giving him three in the last two days, and 17 on the season.  Toribio is batting .256/.361/.405 on the season with the 17 doubles, a triple, and five home runs.
  • Jairo Pomares got his 19th double on the season.  After he hit .369/.416/.709 on the season, he’s started off August almost even hotter, with a .423/.500/.615 batting line after seven games this month.
  • Wil Jensen had one of his rougher games of the season, allowing four runs in 5.1 innings.  Jensen also gave up 2 walks or more for just the 5th time this season in 18 appearance.  He has 90 walks to 17 walks in 80.2 innings.
