AAA: Postponed due to Rain

A new game date hasn’t been announced.  The River Cats have finished their series with the Salt Lake Bees, but are scheduled to return in the final week of September.

Richmond Notes:

  • Diego Rincones had another 2-hit game, his 6th in 13 games of August.  He’s 17-for-48 (.354) over the month of August, which has raised his Double-A batting average to .279 from .222.
  • David Villar hit another double, his third of the last four games, and 20th of the season.  Villar is batting .262/.357/.460 with 20 doubles and 14 home runs on the season.
  • Aaron Blair allowed just a run over three hits, a hit batter and a walk while striking out five.  In five games with Richmond, he has struck out 11 with 12 walks in 18.0 innings.

High-A: Eugene 10, Everett 9

Eugene Notes:

  • Jairo Pomares made his High-A debut, and just continued to hit.  He went 3-for-4 with a double in his debut.  It was his 23rd double overall, along with his time in San Jose.\
  • Tyler Fitzgerald picked up his fourth home run that he hit over his last five games, and his 17th of the season.
  • Sean Roby had his second 3-hit game in the last three games, and is 8-for-14 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run over his last three games.  
  • Marco Luciano picked up his second double in Eugene in his 11th game.  Luciano is 7-for-45 (.156) with two doubles, a triple, and a home run in 11 games in High-A.
  • Aaron Phillips had his shortest start of the season, giving up four runs in 1.0 inning.  Phillips now has an ERA of 7.40 in 15 starts at Eugene.

Low-A: San Jose Giants 6, Rancho Cucamonga 3

San Jose Notes:

  • I was on hand for this one, and will be for the rest of the series, so please follow me at my twitter at @SFGiantFutures for game updates and thoughts!
  • Luis Matos hit a home run to straight away center in his first at-bat, a line shot that hit the batter’s eye well above the fence line at 10 feet high.  It was Matos first home run since his pair on August 13th, and gives him 12 on the season.
  • Yorlis Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a double, his 2nd double in High-A and 6th overall for the summer.  Rodriguez is 5-for-22 (.227) with a pair of doubles, and two walks and three strikeouts.
  • Fabian Pena was 2-for-4, raising his batting average to .263 from .245 in this game.
  • Harrison Freed hit a home run to right center, the opposite way.  It was his first home run since July 23rd.  He also drew his first walk in August.  He’s struck out 64 times to 12 walks in 170 at-bats.
  • Abdiel Layer launched a huge home run to right, his first home run since the first of August, giving him nine home runs on the season.
  • Prelander Berroa had an excellent start, allowing just one run over five innings, allowing just two hits (one home run), two walks, and a hit batter.  He has 107 strikeouts and 38 walks in 74.2 innings.
  • Clay Helvey had an excellent appearance out of the bullpen, striking out five of the six batters he faced.  He’s struck out 66 to 17 walks in 41.0 IP.

ACL: ACL D-Backs 8, ACL Giants Black 6

ACL Giants Black Notes:

  • Max Wright hit his first home run of the summer, just his 4th hit in 27 at-bats.
  • Alexander Suarez picked up his second straight 2-hit game.  Over the last seven games, Suarez is 10-for-26 (.385) with two doubles, a triple, and two home runs.
  • Tristan Beck made his second rehab appearance, giving up a hit and two walks while striking out two.

ACL: ACL Athletics 4, ACL Giants Orange 0

ACL Giants Orange Notes:

  • Grant McCray picked up a hit, extending his hitting streak to five games, but also picked up two walks.  He has seven walks to 19 strikeouts in 52 at-bats this summer.
  • Trevor McDonald gave up a pair of runs, but it still dropped his ERA slightly from 4.93 to 4.89.

  • Jose Ramos hit two home runs, giving him three in ten games.
  • Gustavo Cabrera is 5-for-9 over his last three games, with the third double.
  • Ricardo Estrada had his first shutout appearance, allowing just one hit and two walks.  In 13.2 innings, he has 13 strikeouts to ten walks.

DSL Giants Orange Notes:

  • Derwin Laya picked up his second home run in as many games.  It was also his first 3-hit game of the season, boosting his batting average from .220 to .261.
  • Samuel Reyes picked up his second 2-hit game of the of the season.  Four of his seven total hits this season have come in those games.
  • For the second time in three starts, Rolfi Jimenez had a 3-hitter over five innings.  This time, he also walked two but struck out just one.  He has 17 strikeouts to five walks in 24.1 innings.
