Tuesday’s action feature quite a debut for an 18-year old Cuban, having a heck of a game in the DSL.  Sean Roby’s rehab continued with two home runs, and Tyler Fitzgerald popped one out as well.  Richmond also hit a bunch.  Quite a day for power across the farm.

Top Sacramento Performances:

  • Shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald was 2-for-4 with the team’s biggest hit, a home run.  That puts Fitzgerald into a tie for the team lead on the season with 11, matching Will Wilson.  Fitzgerald has played in the 6th-most games on the team as there’s been a lot of comings and goings.  In Triple-A, Fitzgerald is hitting .280/.340/.482 with seven doubles and two triples to go with the 11 home runs.
  • Catcher Joey Bart was 2-for-4 with two singles and two strikeouts.  Bart continues to hit well, with hits in 12 of his last 13 games, going 17-for-51 (.333) with five doubles and three home runs, and four walks to 14 strikeouts.  His season numbers at Triple-A are up to .250/.321/.410, with seven walks to 35 strikeouts.
  • Reliever Nick Avila struck out the side in his inning of work.  Since returning to Sacramento, Avilla has 42 strikeouts to 26 walks in 45.0 innings, with a 3.80 ERA.

Top Richmond Performances:

  • Jimmy Glowenke had one of his best games in Double-A, going 3-for-6 with a home run and a double.  That gives him four doubles and three home runs in 31 games at Richmond.  But his batting line is still just .198/.286/.321.
  • Second baseman Donovan Walton was 3-for-5 with a walk and his first Double-A home run in his fourth game at the level.  Walton is now 5-for-14 (.357) at the level, with the home run as his only extra-base hit so far, and it was also his first home run at any level in 26 games since coming back from injury.
  • Center fielder Vaun Brown was 2-for-6 with a double and three strikeouts.  After 39 games, he’s got a batting line of .255/.309/.503, with ten doubles, two triples, and eight home runs.  He has just nine walks, and 59 strikeouts in 153 at-bats.
  • Starting pitcher John Bertrand made his Richmond debut, giving up two runs in 5.0 innings, on five hits and a walk, with six strikeouts.  He had a 2.92 ERA in 11 games with Eugene before his promotion, with 41 strikeouts to 12 walks in 49.1 innings.

Top Eugene Performances:

  • 1B Sean Roby was 3-for-6 with two home runs and a double, knocking in four runs and striking out twice.  They were his first extra-base hits in four games at High-A as he works his way back.  He has six home runs in 23 games between High-A and the ACL.  He’s 5-for-19 (.263) with no walks and three strikeouts with the Ems.
  • Designated hitter Matt Higgins had the other Eugene home run on a 2-for-5 day, also with a double and a walk.  It was Higgins’ first hits in three games at Eugene.  He had nine home runs in 64 games at San Jose before his promotion.    He’s 2-for-12 (.167) so far at High-A.
  • Left fielder Jared Dupere was 2-for-4 with a double, his 15th at the level, along with two walks.  That gives him a .274/.344/.471 batting line in 59 games at Eugene, with 15 doubles, a triple, and nine home runs.  Dupere has 95 strikeouts to 20 walks so far.
  • Starting pitcher Nick Sinacola went 5.0 shutout innings, giving up just two hits and one walk, with four strikeouts.  That lowered his ERA from 5.46 to 5.05 in this game, his first start without allowing any runs since May 5th.  He has 81 strikeouts to 22 walks in 66.0 innings.
  • The rest of the innings went to one reliever, Seth Lonsway, who gave up just one run in 4.0 innings, off of two hits and two walks, while striking out three.  He still has a 6.12 ERA after 20 games at High-A, with 51 strikeouts to 34 walks in 57.1 innings.

Top San Jose Performances:

  • Shortstop Diego Velasquez was 2-for-4 on the day with a stolen base, his 14th of the season.  Velasquez is on a pretty good run over his last six games, going 11-for-25 (.440) with three doubles, a triple, and one home run, with one walk to three strikeouts.  He has an overall batting line of .306/.393/.439.
  • Right fielder Tanner O’Tremba was 1-for-3 with the team’s only extra-base hit, his 17th double of the season, plus a HBP.  O’Tremba now has 17 doubles, two triples, and four home runs, with 30 walks to 57 strikeouts.  His batting line on the season is .265/.398/.416.
  • Starting pitcher Gerelmi Maldonado went 5.0 shutout innings, allowing only two hits, while striking out six.  Maldonado has given up at least three runs (not always earned) in each of his last four starts, so this performance lowered his ERA from 5.26 to 4.79.  He has 71 strikeouts to 34 walks in 56.1 innings.

Top ACL Giants Black Performances:

  • DH Ryan Reckley picked up his second home run of the season, going 1-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts.  This season for the 18-year old has been a struggle, as he’s got a batting line of .172/.325/.247, with only one double and two home runs in 29 games.
  • Third baseman Elian Rayo was 1-for-4 with his own home run, with a walk and two runs scored.  Rayo’s now matched his season high in home runs from 2022, which he reached in 52 games.  This season, in 30 games, he’s hitting .233/.355/.489 with five doubles and six home runs.
  • Starting pitcher Trevor McDonald gave up one run in 2.0 innings, on two hits and no walks, with two strikeouts.  He’s had starts with both ACL Giants teams, and overall has three runs allowed in 5.0 innings (5.40 ERA overall), but with seven strikeouts to just one walk.

  • 2B Abdiel Layer was 1-for-3 with a home run in his first (half) game of the season, in this rehab stint.  He only played five innings of this 7-inning game.  He was last seen in 2022 at Low-A San Jose (his second season at the level), where he hit .231/.315/.463.
  • Staring pitcher Mikell Manzano had a scoreless inning, striking out two.  In just two games this season, he’s unscored upon in 2.0 innings, with four strikeouts and no baserunners allowed.

  • In his first pro game, center fielder Lisbel Diaz was 3-for-4 with two home runs and eight RBI, plus a walk and a HBP.  The 18-year old Cuban signed just a couple of days ago.
  • Left fielder Miguel Blanco was 3-for-6 with a home run and a stolen base.  It was just his second home run in 20 games this summer, with two doubles and a triple.  He also now has three steals in four attempts.
  • DH Oswaldo Ladera was 2-for-4 with his first home run of the summer.  Ladera has played 25 games this summer, with two doubles and the one home run, and a batting line of .274/.432/.342.
  • Starting pitcher Johan Rodriguez threw three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out only one.  It was Rodriguez’s first start out of seven appearances, and he dropped his ERA from 9.72 to 7.15.
