AAA: Tacoma 10, Sacramento 5

Sacramento Notes:

  • Jason Krizan led the Cats offensively, going 2-for-3 with a walk, his 12th home run in Sacramento and his 27th double.  On the season in Sacramento, Krizan has now played 82 games, and has a batting line of .284/.340/.508 and a pair of triples to go along with the doubles and home runs.
  • Willie Calhoun’s double was the only other Sacramento extra-base hit, as he went 1-for-4.  It was Calhoun’s ninth double on the year, eight of which have come for Sacramento (in 35 games), and the other one coming for Round Rock (in 21 games).
  • Starter Jonathan Bermudez had a rough debut for Sacramento, giving up five runs on four hits and two walks in 1.1 innings, though he struck out three.  He was sunk by two home runs.  Bermudez had been claimed by the Giants from the Astros off of waivers on August 23rd.  For Triple-A Sugarland, the 26-year old had a 8.96 ERA over 19 appearances with 65 strikeouts, 37 walks, and 16 home runs allowed in 67.1 innings.
  • R.J. Dabovich had a rough inning, allowing a run on no hits and one walk, by allowing a steal and then two balks, while striking out two.  Dabovich now has a 4.70 ERA with Sacramento, with 18 walks to 19 strikeouts in 15.1 innings.
  • Luis Ortiz struck out four in 2.0 scoreless innings, giving up just one hit.  Ortiz has not allowed an earned run since June 23rd, a span of 13 games (23.0 innings), lowering his ERA from 7.30 to 4.66.

AA: Harrisburg 8, Richmond 5

Richmond Notes:

  • Shane Matheny led off the bottom of the 1st with his 11th home run in Double-A this season.  Matheny now has 13 overall between Double-A and Triple-A, a new career-high in home runs, and he now has as many home runs as doubles in Richmond.
  • Tyler Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 with a walk and his 17th double of the season.  After batting .312 in August, Fitzgerald has started off September by going 5-for-12 (.417) with a pair of doubles.  His season batting average is up from .199 to .231 over that span.
  • Will Wilson also had three hits, all singles, going 3-for-5. Over his last three games, Wilson is 6-for-11 (.545) and two walks to one strikeout, though without any extra-base hits.
  • It was a rough start for Kyle Harrison as the season winds down.  He gave up four runs on six hits and a walk, two hits being for home runs, though he struck out six in 2.0 innings.  The start was his shortest since early in the year on April 22nd, and Harrison has now allowed 10 runs in 11.2 innings over his past three starts.
  • Evan Gates struck out two in a scoreless inning of work in relief, his second Double-A appearance.  He now has six strikeouts to one walk in 3.0 innings at Richmond, and has 62 strikeouts to 15 walks in 49.1 innings across three levels.

High-A: Eugene 4, Everett 0

Eugene Notes:

  • Mason Black set the tone in a huge start, striking out nine in 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and three walks.  The nine strikeouts fell one short of tying his season high, but he now has 130 strikeouts to 32 walks in 107.0 innings this season.
  • Patrick Bailey went 1-for-3 with a walk, hitting his 14th double of the season.  Bailey extended his hitting streak to 11 games, and he now has five doubles and a home run as a part of it.
  • Rob Emery picked up his seventh double in High-A by going 1-for-3.  Overall this year, Emery has 12 doubles, two triples, and five home runs across 67 games between High-A and Triple-A.
  • Hayden Cantrelle picked up his second double with Eugene in his fourth game there, going 1-for-2 with a walk.  Hayden is 4-for-10 with two doubles and a home run, plus five walks to three strikeouts.  Across 44 games for various Giants affiliates, Cantrelle has 44 walks to 45 strikeouts.

Low-A: San Jose 4, Stockton 2

San Jose Notes:

  • San Jose won without any extra-base hits, led partially by Aeverson Arteaga, who went 2-for-4 with a walk, and his 11th steal of the season.  Arteaga now has 11 steals in 16 attempts, with a batting line .268/.341/.423.
  • Victor Bericoto also had a pair of hits and a walk, going 2-for-4 with the walk.  Over his last four games, Bericoto is 6-for-15 (.400) with two doubles, and five walks to three strikeouts. 
  • Adrian Sugastey went 2-for-4 himself.  Sugastey has a San Jose batting line of .242/.328/.339 across 72 games.
  • 2022 5th round pick Liam Simon made his San Jose debut, striking out four and allowing just two hits in 2.2 scoreless innings.  Across five appearances, four in Arizona, Simon has 11 strikeouts to two walks in 9.2 innings.
  • Manuel Mercedes had the piggyback start, allowing two runs, one earned, in 5.1 innings on five hits and two walks, with two strikeouts.  That slightly lowers Mercedes’ season ERA to 5.50, and he’s now got 63 strikeouts to 59 walks.
